What a bummer. We helped map the Kerrville floods for support of the state. Same day we mapped it, so did this WB-57 - only 35K feet above us. Such a historic and unique aircraft - I feel bad for the pilots onboard knowing it will likely total that aircraft even if it was a mechanical failure.

I love my Remarkable, it forces me to stay in creativity mode without jumping to the internet since it doesn't have a browser. That being said, the inability to simply put your own templates in the machine and have them persist through and update is so close to being a showstopper for me that I am not sure I would consider buying a new one. The RM2 template manager is great, but you have to update your templates after every firmware update and I hate that with a passion!

I love tailscale, but an unusual thing happened when I upgraded my home pc to Windows 11. Now my tailscale still connects to all of my other computers and servers, but I can't browse any network shares. I guess authentication changed in Windows 11 and is not backward-compatible. Tailscale worked marvelously for me for ages, but Windows 11 for sure threw a wrench in the gears!

That's interesting. I have a site I visit about once every three months that requires a mag key and three different keyfobs. I had been looking at this as a fun way to declutter my access into this facility.

Has there ever really been independent fact-based journalism? I think not. We're all human with inherent bias, and while it seems like journalists tried harder in older times - they still had bias. We can yell and scream at eachother about who started what, and who was worse; but for what?

It seems that as years go by that editorial boards (leaning in both directions) are having much more impact on what you and I read. Those editorial boards are influenced by owners and investors. Those people have bias as well.

There still does not seem to be a journalism source that is bias-free. I read yesterday that "Chat GPT is a panacea for bias in reporting". I nearly gagged!

In 2001 when the twin towers fell, I was encouraged by how suddenly everyone put down their party ties and went to talk about how we would rebuild and retaliate. In present day, the war in Ukraine has done nothing but further split our nation. So what changed? We didn't act like this during Bosnia.

Is it the effect of journalism bias, or is it our nature as humans still working through the shock of Covid that we can't let things go. Are we now looking to argue just one more time to make sure "the other side" knows we think they're wrong?

We are sick as the human race, and nobody is admitting that. We've gone from intent to divide instead of intent to unite.

Reading this reminded me of my earliest "IT Guy" days in the mid-late nineties when nearly every office had a PBX no matter the size. I just remember replacing burned out line cards, and the system held like 20 cards of 5 lines a piece. They'd burn out for no reason and you had to replace them randomly on a Friday after you were half way home and thinking about the cocktail that needed mixing.

I don't agree or disagree with what you're saying, but isn't this the point of a "jury of your peers"? To exact a punishment befitting the crime?

I'm a business owner and hire SE roles on a regular clip. I'll share some things with you, the market is totally unpredictable right now. Even with some projected wins, we don't know what a new/mixed US Administration will mean. Investigations? Deadlock? New laws that impact us? We have record inflation for our career lifetimes and we seem to have entered a recession, but people still disagree on if we're in it and how long we'll last. My customers are all experiencing this, and while that emotion has slowed orders they have not stopped.

All of these things together as a business owner, going into holiday times; make me keep the mindset that hiring anyone right now for a non-essential position can probably wait until I can understand better what our company's financial picture is going to look like.

I agree and though much of the outrage has some political ties to it, I think and assume you agree that this is a pervasive problem for everyone not within the ranks of a federal agency of some kind.
