What’s the message?
I might use that as my title for my partner case.
Automating (super dull financial industry department) is the industry of superstars
Really good writing style. So much info in such short, simple sentences.
Do I need to think of 260 different keys? Gonna take a while to practise that, and I feel like there is a separte mechanics processor to my core processing motor, so I can think and type at the same time; how do I make sure it’s the other one that brain-types?
Having worked a bunch of years in finance, Excel has more impact than any other single tool.
Yes - most papers just present one idea, as part of a field.
Although, the original paper of an idea, I often find, has the most human-readable explanation. Pearl's 1986 paper of Bayesian Networks, Gauss' 1800-whatever paper on the normal distribution, the original bitcoin/blockchain paper by that Japanese-sounding name, etc. They're still trying to sell the idea so they really need to talk to the idiots.
The hammer that is still looking for a nail, since 1986.
Anyone seen one really be useful?
Jira, trello, skype, a lot of bloody email,
Sharepoint, badly. Starting with confluence.
Low in expectation. The site argued she just didn't expect it to be successful.
She seemed to agree.
The Steppenwolf, by Herman Hesse. It's supposedly about the author himself in 1920s Germany, also about depression, existentialism, and recovery, in a surreal context.
(hence, my user name)
I had the fortune to grow up simultaneously in a few variations of christianity. None of them dealt adequately with the argument why animals don't have souls, nor referred to the bible. It was just stated.
Also, none of the dealt with why a person who had never encountered the bible would go de facto to hell.
If we were really made in god's image, then he'd expect us to follow logic, thank you.
Eighths are pretty nice in decimal..
So rich, and sounds like a racket.
I remember my maths teacher teaching that in 1995. He was pretty good at explaining it, but not as good as this video.
We should really be seeing a great education dividend from the availability of material these days.
I just used it to consult with a young woman who cancelled her open heart surgery today, which gives her two years to live. The result was low expectancy, and the advice is indeed helpful.
The English language versus the German language is like data scientists versus actuaries. English had no quality control; the oxford still uses adverbs but ignores ye for plural second person, and they for third person singular, but who fucking cares? The German language remembers every exception, and, by the way, wegen was dativ before it was genitive, and is like solving simultaneous partial differential equatons to speak.
Lower regulation leads to more development and higher risk.
Let’s accept that trade-off and go intelligently forward.
For polishing and drilling marble, for example. Not for polishing diamonds. The diamonds are different qualities.
Nah, you need all sorts of quality grades for drilling, polishing, etc.
The inventors of synthetic diamonds at General Electric didn't receive anything other than their normal wage (perhaps a little bonus, I don't remember).
It makes no sense from a capital perspective. The software provider would need to hold risk capital (money in the back pocket) like a bank or insurance company, but in proportion to the revenues of the companies they sell the software to, not the software company itself.
But American service is very arse-licking, no? The tip culture means that every waitstaff is smiling and flirting with you.
I miss German, "fuck you, give me your order", wait service.
House is public information at city hall.
Phone is not.
Those auto-summary bots on reddit are suddenly a hot commodity.
Utmost care needs to be documented.
Data collection is also part of the regulations; only collecting the data they need. Tracking data they do not even use seems to me to be a clear violation.
But isn't advertising spending increasing?
How does a specific software offerer like Neo4j diversify it's service offering? Should it?
Hypothesis: It turned out that a lot of people did not want to pay for news. They wanted to pay for entertainment. Newspapers had a distribution monopoly, and chose what the users wanted to receive.
Now that the monopoly is broken, other parties are providing services give for free. It turns out that many users are happy with those services.
Some users wanted news enough to pay for it. Those users now pay subscriptions.
However, the old news was subsidised by the users who just wanted entertainment. The new news is paid for by a smaller group. They must either pay more, or accept less news.
I pay for financial news. There is no other news I would be prepared to pay for. I am not prepared to pay for entertainment, except the cinema and overpriced popcorn.
