Very cool but the Arabic text in the title image is obviously and hopelessly broken, which is oddly not the case when actually using the model. Could it be that the hero image was not generated by Qwen Image 3.0?

Ine thing no other CMS tends to get right (for my needs) is Gutenberg. Tiptap, mantine etc.are just no substitute and for someone like me with next to no frontend knowledge Gutenberg was the only option that provided the flexibility and good defaults to keep a decent looking website that my students could also post on with no training.
A while ago I ran claude code in a custom loop (calling it autoclaude; this was last summer) to create a CMS with Gutenberg’s editor but a lean Python backend (github.com/hessammehr/nuCMS). This was in the Sonnet 3.7 days and even that model got quite far.
I would recommend Onshape to start. The user interface and documentation are stellar and you don't need to install anything to get started.
Good to know about the risk of deformation due to heat from the LED strip. Ours hasn’t visibly warped over the past few months of use, fingers crossed it will last a little while
I haven't used OpenSCAD much beyond combining primitives. Truthfully these organic shapes are more of a use-case for 3D modelling software like Blender rather than CAD, but I'd be keen to hear if you end up giving OpenSCAD a go.
My Bambu A1 mini has been reliable despite the challenging geometry; pretty sure your P2S will work just as well if not better. Good luck!
Just noticed that this has made it to the front page, so just had a quick look through to see if there are any broken links, etc. (as I have a habit of forgetting them) and added the missing OnShape link to the LED strip diffuser.
Also recommend checking out the live Marimo notebook linked down at the bottom. Incredible what you can do with Pyodide + Marimo these days. I only wish there was a webassembly version of jax to make it easier to share random numpyro experiments.

This might have been unintentional, but I suspect "Spectre of Structure" and "Python's missing piece" refer to Nathan Marz's specter library for clojure [1], similarly touted as clojure's missing piece. I tend to agree in the case of specter, given the mind-boggling types of transformations that are easily (and simply) expressed in it (and often run faster than idiomatic clojure as well). Highly recommended if you ever need to work with deeply nested data structures.
Ink spread and feathering on cheap paper is unfortunate and frustrating. I would also add pretty much any pigment or iron gall-based ink to your suggestion. Unlike dye-based inks, i.e. the vast majority of your vibrant colors on the market, these contain tiny particles that are (with a little bit of oversimplification) permanently trapped in the cellulose fibers of paper as you write. The end results is that these inks are waterproof and don't show the dreaded feathering/bleeding on cheaper paper. I recommend the Rohrer and Klingner Salix and Scabiosa, two inexpensive iron gall inks (blue-black and purple-gray), Sailor Kiwa Guro and Sei Boku (pigmented black and blue) and the Platinum pigmented inks (available in blue, red and black IIRC). The Salix and Sei Boku have worked wonderfully for me on copier paper with no clogging/cleaning issues so far.
Agreed. Would you say it helps if the funding agencies were on board with, say, having a non-profit foundation run this service? They would have a much easier time allocating their $ since the system can show who contributed what and how many people found it useful. I feel like PIs need to know they can pay the bills and as long as the money is coming we can get them to try out the new systems.
Other comments have pointed out the prestige issue. My real issue with this is that academic findings need to be freed from the whole "paper" format: a static, discrete document. New findings compliment and invalidate older ones. In the old days there was no way to reflect this due to the static nature of print. The paper and its physical constraints do not need to exist with today's technology. One more thing -- How many times have you wondered if some journal somewhere has the answer to the question you're trying to answer (but don't know how to look it up)? The disparate, static content of journals resists the formation of a cohesive corpus of knowledge.
Github has no barrier to entry, yet does not have a prestige issue. People get hired based on the content of their github account. I can't see why funding agencies couldn't use a similar system to track the academic contributions of researchers.
It's ironic that the rest of the world has moved on to connected, consistent experiences while academics are still stuck with papers. I've been thinking after I submit my thesis that I should find other people that are likewise frustrated and try to build a better system for academic collaboration and dissemination. Perhaps something more like Wikipedia than a journal.
