They likely bought themselves into the top spot. Now that you are in the Apple ecosystem, you will be buying Apple stuff.

Since we are comparing in this thread, why are computer science grads often afraid of math based solutions?

For example, I had a physics problem and a computer science buddy was opposed to solving it ourselves. He insisted we needed an expert. When at worst it needed differential equations that ended up cancelling out. It wasn't a hard problem, it just took some effort.

Is this a rare experience? Or have other people found a reluctance of math in comp sci?

Google is getting bad, but I want a decent competitor to Windows/Android.

Apple is not competition. They serve a lax customer base.

The search results have gotten noticably worse in the last year.

When a Wikipedia/encyclopedia article is what I'm looking for, why is Google showing articles?

Wikipedia used to be the top result.

Many believe those protections you describe is the cause of inequality.

For example,when only 300k/yr physicians can give you access to medicine, it's not capitalism.

The literal definition of socialism is an impossibility, power always gets concentrated among the few.

"This time will be different" crowd hadn't been compelling. Human nature hadn't changed.

Functionally I see many non math people struggle to understand rate of change.

I find integrals useful.

Also I see my computer science pals have a lack of faith in math. I don't understand why.

Not sure your area, but unskilled labor goes for 15$/hr in metro Detroit.

My hypothesis is that we are experiencing high inflation and that's the recession.

And before anyone says "fed reserve 2 percent", the federal reserve is known to lie.

For years I've described bugs in Apple's iPhone apps and have been told "it's just me" or to expect long delays between actions.

Or that constant updates and logging in are good things.

I'm no fanboy so it's easy to spot flaws. It blows my mind how quick people are to defend poor quality.

Plenty of people fall for marketing.

I'm not sure how that is relevant.

Apple deleted apps for China, gets hacked by the FBI, locks out developers, sells broken keyboards, overcharges for hardware, uses proprietary software.

Evil company, their fanatics cling to the "privacy" marketing.

I have refused as well.

My users and I lose by buying Apple products.

I weep that Apple has entrenched themselves into the tech ecosystem. They take advantage of the least educated users fear and outright lie about security and product quality.

Is there anything we can do?

Only 4 more years until Elon Musk puts a $30,000 Tesla on Mars where solar power roofs cost the same as conventional.

I believed it until about 3 years ago, when I realized spaceX is Elon's government subsidized advertisement for his other projects. Also the 30k car is never coming. And the roof price is loaded with astricks to be 'correct".

We really need to wake up to the next gen marketing tactics.

When it gets bad, I'll stop going.

But right now I am still getting decent results.

I don't use Facebook anymore, yet we had some hysteria about that being manipulated.

What if it's pointless to you, but someone else needs to hear the status because they need to decide what's important to tell the vice president?

I've been warning people of a certain 1T$ tech company that abuses customers and developers under the guise of centralization.

Our worst fears have become true. Banning apps, anti consumer technology, anti competitive practices that effect non users.

It's an indicator of intelligence.

Although I'm glad to have learned at work, that a PhD is not the only way to showcase this.

I study on my own and present it on my website, no paywall or subscription. I do what I want, rather than what a professor tells me.

I've been featured on some top websites.

My point is, you don't need academia necessarily. And after meeting PhD grads, I'm not sure I believe in the positive association with intelligence and accomplishments.

And needing to give them personal information to read their articles...

Why are independent blogs bad again?

After my wife had someone lie about 15+ hrs of working at home, I stopped believing in the "work at home" trend.

I understand it works for some, but since it doesn't work for everyone, I can see how people would be offended by an "unfair" policy.

Sure, if there is a clear start and end, these things could work. But on creative work that could go on forever, it's easy to cut corners.
