Great code has never been the requirement of success.

Throughout my career no software that hits $100m annual revenue was born from great code. That’s 2 fortune 100 hi-tech companies with other medium sized companies with revenue close to $1B.

There was one company that had better codebase than the others, unfortunately that company struggles to hit $2M MRR…

Looking back, it was painful to admit that code quality was not how the company succeed: it was overall strategy and luck.

short-term?

how about 100 years?

Beginning in Great Britain around 1760, the Industrial Revolution had spread to continental Europe and the United States by about 1840

You know what else happened during that 100-200 years time frame? 2 Wars + Governments decided to step in and rebuild post-war. Governments tax the rich/elite by 90%.

You know what else happened? workers being punished physically and mentally until the formation of Unions.

You skipped a big chunk of The Ruling Class always exploit everybody else like what we're seeing right now: Tech CEOs laying off and not hiring.

History repeats again.

Are our productivity increase for the better? People are still working overtime because of reduced worker's protection today.

Many people who pointed out the Industrial Revolution becomes the basis of modern quality of life skip what happened in between the 17xx-18xx until today.

Things like Unions, Wars, etc.

What comes after new technology has always been the elite class owning them all and forcing everybody else to suffer until something managed the distribution of resources slightly better (War forces that).

Majority weren’t billionaires when they started their successful companies.

Their successful companies (the employees) and the government, policies, and environment around them are the things that make them successful.

Billionaires mostly hoard assets. Important assets that you need (not want, need) to live.

Diversity in property means condos with various configurations, rowhouses, townhouses, multiplex (duplex, quadplex, sixplex).

Where I live, the local government decided to remove zoning thereby allowing more varieties of properties.

Price comes down in the sense that the missing middle provide options between condo to townhouse to detached

Someone reminds me all the time: consider AI as “companions” and “opinions”.

AI (adhd, neurodivergence) entrepreneurs took opinions and made them facts.

It takes certain personalities to lead an AI company.

It’s more likely that there are more western VC propaganda here than CCP.

The HN of Paul Graham era had finished.

This is the HN of Sam Altman and Gary Tan era.

Different VC/capitalist mindset

Where in the article it suggested the spread due to immigration?

If any, it is due to misinformation and reluctance of those communities (mentioned specifically Alberta rural, y’know, the province that has been burned with misinformation, public health scandal, crazy Premier that has been stoking Separatism while cozying with MAGA that has threatened Canada sovereignty)

"move up the value chain" assuming:

1. the next level opportunity exist

2. proper training (we all know that's pipe dream)

3. fits what these folks are looking for (for some, repetitive jobs == less stress than "creative" jobs).

but what about glut of workers == depress wage?

How realistic is this plan that is the question.

FTA:

Amazon has considered steps to improve its image as a “good corporate citizen” in preparation for the anticipated backlash around job losses, according to The NYT, reporting that the company considered participating in community projects and avoiding terms like “automation” and “AI.” More vague terms like “advanced technology” were explored instead, and using the term “cobot” for robots that work alongside humans.

Are you aware this is one of the worst housing markets in North America for exactly the same reason as NYC?

That's because you pointed out rent control in your earlier argument. It's not the end-all-be-all. I don't know why you picked that specifically knowing that Vancouver has rent control and to some degree it's fine.

His platform is more than rent control no?

The one thing BC is doing correctly right now is getting rid of a lot of the market controls

BC got rid of Airbnb and that's one factor among many others that influence the pricing today: high interest rate, Trump tariff, China econ not doing well hence not a lot of Mainland China money flowing to Vancouver like it used to be. All these contribute to weaker demand.

The getting rid of zoning, while I fully support it for my own benefit, is yet to be seen IMO.

shrug British Columbia (where Vancouver is located) has rent control and people continue to live normally.

Billionaires don't like it when politicians put a target on them.

Billionaires (or Landlords) have been hiding behind class war for thousand years. They continue to find ways to divide and conquer.

The moment a popular politicians start to poke em a little bit is the moment where they will react swiftly
