As a fan of Ursula K. Le Guin, the central theme is one sorely missed.

This has been a controversial critique in terms of karma (up and down so many times it has leveled out.)

It’s a bit crass, though my reply was regarding the relevance in today’s world (dirty secrets we don’t confront) more than the author’s shake up.

Le Guin’s social commentary is still pressing in our day.

What a horrific nonsensical rant that clearly misses the point of the story.

Save yourself the eyesores, don’t click.

The Omelas narrative challenges the psychological maxim that someone must suffer for the common gain.

It is a short story, and like all short stories accentuates a tiny detail into a worldview.

In what way does Ursula roll in her grave?

Gaza, or #metoo, or thriving race hate, or the pedopolitics (here come scathing karma killers.)

To be silent in the face of a tyranny of evil is to be complicit.

Rest easy Ursula, you have been heard.

This is not new. Potential resolves through constructive and destructive interference as state in the moment of now.

State is not the building block of existential reality (as classical tautological theory insists), potential is.

That “cloud” is the super amplitude of quantum dynamics we have always spoken of, yet left unintegrated into our world view.

Complicated means more Extraneous and more than necessary. Complexity means an order of magnitude beyond an immediate account.

Resilience requires that failure at one level minimizes the likelihood of catastrophic chains of failure. This may mean redundancy or heuristic response (both threaten the rule of extraneous.)

The design of any system should consider how each piece of a larger assemblage may perform its functions clearly, without unnecessary dependencies. Further, such components should self identity their status and provide tools or process by which each feature may be tested without disrupting their role in the greater system dynamic.

I would disagree on one hand as mechanisms can and shall inevitably outperform human thought capacity at some scale.

And agree on another, the human mind is an efficient quantum computer (I know …) which uses constructive and destructive interference for some holographic rendering rather than a composition of linear conditional logic.

Do not let the confines of human ignorance set the horizon for Truth!

Allow that science is only a tool for undeceiving ourselves. Universal rejection sounds like dogma, not science.

Not process.

Potential is composed of the super-amplitude. Process would be the physical system influencing the resolve (which may vary allowing different technological approaches, i.e. organic or silicon or otherwise.)

QM exclusively allows this super-amplitude. No physical process can compare, yet without some physical medium the amplitudes would be unbound.

Modernity sees state as the building block of reality. Quantum dynamics says it is POTENTIAL through constructive and destructive interference resolving into state in the moment of now (a continuously transitive and ephemeral moment.)

Is it so hard to see consciousness as the domain of existential POTENTIAL, and living systems as a feedback loop into this echo chamber of potential?

Does potential not sound more like consciousness than the arrangement of state?

Information is the reduction of uncertainty. If it does not reduce uncertainty it is not information.

Intelligence is the mitigation of uncertainty.

The revelation of the light is information. Navigating the contours of darkness is intelligence.

If the cave walls glowed in response to proximity (of the observer) then the light source would have a modicum of intelligence.

A thermostat is certainly intelligent.

The definition of intelligent I give is “to mitigate uncertainty.” If it does not mitigate uncertainty, it is not intelligent.

It is merely of constrained intelligence. Perhaps your expectations are too broad.

If the thermostat reacts appropriately to environmental changes then it is performing its role intelligently.

A perspective on the definition of consciousness. Sorry I didn’t respond in line to the comments I am actually addressing. I thought it overall relevant.

By all this I am saying consciousness is our echo chamber, something grounded in the quantum cloister of objective reality, not directly related to intelligence.

Throwing out the definition of consciousness as “the inflection upon the potential of existential being.”

All matter in the universe is dormant consciousness and life technology animates this through electrochemical biotechnology.

By this definition quantum computers are more consciousness than an infinitely complex algorithm, yet consciousness is analogue (not qubits.)

We still understand so little and I accept your skepticism yet this is the definition that is not being discussed.

All those other messy details are yours to sort out (bacteria has bacterial consciousness.)

Our brains are vast by comparison, and like any holographic system (constructive and destructive interfering wave fronts) higher resolution.

Also subjective doesn’t mean some detached arbitrary thing, it literally means (and may be a direct synonym of) “a point of perspective.” In a non anthropomorphic way it means from the perspective of a specific instance of a thing (forensic referential interpretation.) In this way the angular corners of a triangle are subjectively relative to one and other, yet all exist on an objective plane.

It may be better to merely use a versioning field and allow some entries to be hidden by mods (published/draft/hidden indicator.)

Rollbacks at the database level will make things harder to understand and prevent future reference to disputed entries. (Mods may want to deliberate or keep for future reference.)

Besides, wouldn’t you want access to old revisions?

No, you certainly are not living your best life.

Now is an arbitrary point as it is not the times which limits your quality of life, it is your good taste and self determination which is lacking.

Your best life would come by your fullest awareness that you are the source of most anxiety and want.

Sure, there is deprevity and want in the world yet it is so very far away from the average these things might as well be a fluke.

Consider, that NOW is a magical time in which our homes are safe, with running water, electricity, heating and cooling. Abundant foods of every variety and intrigue brought right to you (or at least your neighborhood grocer.) a time of mechanical wonders that can transport you (and all your belongings) great distances, even through the air! Things which make your life equal to that of Gods (or royalty) in ancient times.

Now isn’t your problem, knowing how to live is your problems.

Try living lean, without over leveraging. Choose good taste and lifestyle integrity rather than convenience or habit.

Take good care of yourself, as your health and mental well being are the greatest assets in this life! And while you’re at it, treat others well!

… or morality is periodic. Carried along by the rip tide of modernity, do we not recoil in shock in some instances, become lazy and lax in others? Aren’t we at times overreaching indulgence or unsympathetic obstruction?

Could moral reflection merely be a part of our social evolution?

We live in trying times. Prosperity and convenience are not moral indicators.

Thought control is far more advanced than any modern layperson can grasp. Our minds are analog quantum tech and can be linked through entanglement.

They’re not just mind fucking you, they are running a secret government of power in parallel to our own.

They screw the government at every opportunity.

The government and big tech aren’t thought control, thought control are the voices in their heads. Thought control are the voices in all of our heads. Their secret state has outgrown a contemporary society that refuses to believe it is even possible, let alone exist.

We are not alone in our own minds, and thought control is running a secret state of extortion against us all.

I had an interesting conversation in CA with a cop that pulled me over regarding the [then] plausible legalization of shrooms. Apparently, there had been quite a bit of discussion among their rank and a civilized perspective of the inevitability had been reached. Damn shame those representatives of our republic didn’t have the nerves to see that one through.

Edit: pulled over for tail light, rest was just chatter ;)

I am hiring for results, not keeping a chair warm.

That I think is the point the critics miss. Integrity is essential, yet sometimes the most fulfilling relationships take on their own unconventional forms.

Ah, that’s the spirit!

Yet I say unto thee: “Despise not in others what one covets for themselves, for that is hypocrisy.”

I have trouble comprehending what this piece provides beyond bullshit slinging at big tech. Wishing you were the one making six fixture for 2 - 6 hour days?

Business is in part strategy.

Individual tech workers are in part corrupt (and incompetent), blaming leadership rather than taking initiative.

Sometimes there is extreme abuse, incompetence, and misguided direction; we hear and scampuousely retell those stories, forever.

We gain no wisdom or insight from these arbitrary post-mortem turd fests. Other than sensational wastes of someone else’s cash, aren’t we all ready to do it again?

I think the sorts of aliens that would turn up around here wouldn’t have the daily living habits of humans. Consider spending one’s life in pods or completely genetically engineering the physical form to itself be merely a vessel for the curious life it carries?

When asking about others we cling too readily that our ways and perspectives are universally shared.
