But realise we needed the press to give way for mass literacy and scientific revolution. Bonus points for rfc 2136, works easily with [external-dns](https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/external-dns). I've been using k8s+external-dns on-prem with a selfhosted minimal BIND server on a public host for years now.

I dunno, a simple webframework with golang goes pretty far as well. With a pho stack I always get forced into phpfpm, dependency injection containers, etc. Sure its easy to roll in, but it's not simple.

I would be perfectly fine not using TUIs if only GUIs were a lot saner for keyboard driven workflows. Second thing is minimalism. I'm not overloaded with information other than the stuff i care about. Of course this is not inherent to TUIs, but just a common theme (and o.c. there are exceptions.)

I shouldn't have to roundtrip to a central server to validate if I'm up to par. I'm not saying the tooling is there already, but we've painted ourselves in a corner by tight coupling our ci to a centralized server.

yes you do, the control plane is closed. Only reverse engineered by the headscale project. The control plane is necessary for the peers to find each other. If you need to rely on such a crucial part being reverse-engineered, than yes, I think it's fair to say you are ultimately relying on commercial entities.

I did have a problem with hosting my own shit because my ISP by default does cgnat. That cost me an hour of my life to convince a party to give what used to be normal, end to end connectivity.

Nothing is stopping your router which does RA to also work in tandem with an internal dns server that can do hostnames for you mapped to slaac addresses.
