hmm, I did not know that. Do you have some external links or returns to back this claim?

Think there are many others (you mentioned one of them e.g., TGS) but they are not in the same league as RenTec's medallion fund.
Does anyone know of any well known tools that generate bindings in other languages e.g., Python from C++ code?
IIUC, this tool does the opposite i.e., generate C++/other language bindings from Python
Curious, what kind of companies were these?
In my experience in the valley, almost all of the h1b's I have worked with are the smartest people I know from top colleges.
hmm, I don't think it is pre-tax. May be some NFLX employee can confirm.
hmm, from what I have seen, $400k is usually their de-facto salary that gets junior folks (L4/E4) from F/G to make their top of market and move to NFLX. Beyond that, do you know how the comp progression is?
You get the option to invest any portion of your salary in NFLX stock options.
This is from another similar post from a couple of weeks back: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18217762
Interesting. Do you happen to know if there is a formal process to do so or just an email would suffice?
Do you have any links to confirm the latter?
From what I have been seeing, the number of both Indian/Chinese students coming to the US for studying has gone down post the Trump administration. Also, I am seeing more Indian/Chinese folks going back home due to increase in engineering wages/opportunities. Of course, it's still not comparable to US but plenty-enough to live a very good life-style back home.
What was Github's current valuation? It seems that the last round valued them at $2b in 2015. Around ~3x multiple on the last round (~7.5b$). Hopefully, the employees are all happy!
Curious, did you evaluate any other similar technologies like Swarm/(Mesos+Marathon) etc.?
What made you eventually go ahead with K8s other than the main obvious reason (the community) itself?
They are upvoted because they are extremely nifty and useful :)
Check out their usage in Cassandra: http://cassandra.apache.org/doc/latest/operating/bloom_filte...
There should be many more you can find via quick googling.
The driver was around near by; this was in SF. I paid a generous tip via the app.
Hmm, my experience with Lyft was slightly different. I went to past trips, clicked find lost item. The support reached out to the driver in 10 minutes and I had the driver at my door in a hour. Haven’t Lost an item with Uber though for comparison.
Usually the common stocks goes at a discount of around close to 15-20percent when compared to preferred for good deals. If the company is not doing well, the discount would be higher proportionally.
Most startups in SV though have a standard ROFR clause. So as long as you can find a buyer, you would get paid.
That being said, read the options agreement carefully and ensure your interests are well protected.
Please don’t spread FUD when you have no clue what you are talking about. Mesos core is certainly not legacy and has been on C++11 for a long time/is very well maintained and has a large active development community. In case a bug has fell through the cracks; kindly reach out on the user mailing list and I am reasonably confident you would get a response.

I couldn't understand the part about an employee and loosing my job. Are you saying that they won't be able to sell their equity even at a steep discount in 90 days? Even, if they incur a loss of ~30-40% over the current prevailing price; it would still be a fortune. They can easily do that to save on the tax or did you mean something else?
Its not that trivial. ISO's have a $100k limit.
You seem to be bringing up a really good point. From reading the article earlier, I was under the false impression that this applies to ISO's too but looks like it only applies to NSO's. What about non-public RSU's for late stage startups like Uber, Airbnb etc?
Yeah, mostly applies to pre-IPO companies offering stock options/RSU's.
Makes sense, Thanks.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I am wondering if its ever possible to board to later approve that those newly bought "common" stocks get converted to "preferred" i.e., have the same liquidation preference?
Couple of queries if anyone happens to know:
- Would existing employees with stock options be allowed to sell or the ones with RSU's are also eligible?
- Would ex employees be eligible too?
You also need to understand that they believe in hiring/keeping high-performers that are much more productive than average engineers. This is how you can justify the much higher salaries (top of market). IIUC, this means; You are effectively rewarding the high performing team more by maintaining a smaller team.
Because its hard to say the least.

Seems so.

Pretty similar. The main difference from the architecture standpoint is that Enterprise DC/OS uses Mesos+Marathon for container orchestration and OpenShift uses K8s. The other functionalities are mostly overlapping.
There is also an OSS version of DC/OS minus some security features. Also, historically Mesos has had better support for running stateful workloads but K8s is catching up too.
Recently, DC/OS announced support for K8s too which is similar to the K8s announcement from Docker.
