I refuse to buy hardware from Meta again. I bought two Portal TV from them and it discontinued and not supported within two years. Now I have two junks in my drawer. :(

I'd like to try this, but it is quite expensive compared to Zebra Sarasa or Pentel Energel. The metal body is interesting, I wonder how different is the weight and feel to pens with plastic body.

I think they falsely believe human only needs one sense to navigate: sight. But we actually use our hearing, smell, and touch too. So, multiple type sensors is actually better than only one.

Ironically, the website is broken when viewed on Safari. Just white blank page. :(

This is impressive. The nerd in me wants to play with it right away, but the skeptic me just doesn't see that this will be mass produced anytime soon. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Here's a million dollar idea for LEGO Group (or any third party): make and sell a LEGO sorting machine. It should be portable enough, and flexible enough for wide ranging of application. I think it can sell loads of them.

Apple is pursuing the wireless future, as simple as that. Be it audio, data transfer, or even power. In the case of headphone jack, they pursue that goal by fixing the bluetooth flaws not by content with what we have right now. Is it a worthy goal to pursue? Time will tell.

I have about 5 years of experience building iOS app. A little bit of experience with Go, PHP and Javascript in between. I also have some experience managing small group of people. I can work alone or in group.

Apple is a victim of their own success. It's a dilemma really. Their culture vs public interest.

I am sure they are exploring new spaces like VR, AR, cars, etc but they haven't finished a decent product yet so they don't announce it. They are the opposite of Google, where they announce every new project only to kill it later (Ara, Fiber, Glass, etc).

They don't really like to announce a product before it's ready. The root is their hardware background. They need to nail the product in the first iteration or it will fail. Move fast and break things don't apply to them.

Whether Apple pursue the hardware route remains to be seen. They only changed their strategy, probably to develop the core self-driving technology first then worry about the design of the car later.

Because it's a MacBook; with batteries in it. The value is in the mobility. If you don't need the batteries and mobility, you could buy a Mac Mini, iMac or Mac Pro.

Yes. I bought the same model to replace my mid-2011 Macbook Air. Coming from an ancient one, this Macbook Pro is a reveleation.

Your experience echo mine. I love the new keyboard very much, no problem typing on it. It even has a pleasing sound when i am typing on them. It invokes ASMR. It doesn't feel too heavy, I can bring it around on one hand just fine. The build quality is amazing. Performance is good. From fully charged I can use it all day without charging. I am very much satisfied.

Is your premise correct though? Will you need to move your head up and down? Isn't the touch bar will be in your field of vision?

Even if your premise is true, is it better to move your head up and down or to move your hands forward and backward to reach the touch screen?

No, sir. In fact you can still see both the current content on the Macbook screen and the entire timeline on the Touch Bar. On trackpad, you need to actually move the pointer to the content before you can scrub, and it's not really that fast. If you manipulate directly on the screen, isn't it will block the view?

IMHO, as far as I understand it, Touch Bar is a bridge that connects the static nature of the keyboard with the dynamic nature of the screen. It is not intended to replace keyboard nor the screen. It is there to augment and extend them.

Touch bar is perfect for this job, considering:

- You can't beat the fast input from fixed keyboard + muscle memory.

- Touch screen on a laptop is really not ergonomic, your arm will get tired fast.

I haven't actually tried it yet, but by watching the launch demo and several screenshots of touch bar on app like Photos or Final Cut Pro I can see that:

- Touch Bar is probably better on scrubbing/scrolling because you can actually see the zoomed out content, like the entire timeline of the movie on FCP.

- I haven't tried Boastr. I am sure it's useful and faster for pro. But on first look it's pretty complicated. It's not built in to the Mac and not easily accessible, especially for new user.

Apple's HIG[1] on the Touch bar is actually great. You can sort of understand the reason Apple put it on the Macbook. You can at least envision two interesting things:

- Touch UI for scrubbing/scrolling contents faster.

- Dynamic shortcuts for most used commands that previously only accessible by using the keyboard.

A general rule I follow on my Mac to minimize memory and power consumption:

- Use Safari

- Avoid web based desktop app like Atom, Slack, etc.

- Limit maximum of 3 app open, e.g. Xcode + iTerm + Safari. Bonus: I can focus my mind on the things that I need to do.

- Limit maximum of 3 open tabs on my Safari.

IMHO, Apple removing headphone jack and legacy ports is exactly the kind of things that opposite of having "toner heads" running the company. If "toner heads" are really running Apple they will be scared taking the risk and moving forward because they know it will hurt sales. If "toner heads" are really running Apple they will not take the risks of creating a new interaction model with unproven reception among customers.

I love Apple for this and I am buying the new Macbook Pro tomorrow. :)

Yes. I've been using Realm for my work app. In my opinion it's easier than Core Data, and certainly much easier than bare SQLite.

I've expected it to cross 1.0 after 0.99 but it keeps going on to more than 0.101. So, congrats on finishing the milestone.

One request though: what about grouping functionality?

Fair point. But what subject should we replace from the current curriculum? Adding another subject seems like another burden for students.

Because I believe it is not an essential surviving skill for everyone (at least for now).

I think adult can do whatever they want. But every kid should be given the chance and opportunity to learn coding, and it should not be mandatory.

Connected is not inherently a bad thing. It can be useful as long as the computer in the car can think and act independently; just like human.
