College is totally worthless. Everyone is the very smart entrepreneurial type like we all of course are, and already posses the vast majority of skills that they'll ever need in life. Indeed, college for them would be nothing more than nights spent alone in their dorm room working on their next failed startup and leaving comments around the Internet about how much more successful they'd be if they stayed out of college. Man, now if only they could get invited to a party or talk to a girl.

A degree from a Tier-1 school and high GPA is a signal to potential employers that you are a hard worker and smart. This appears to hold well for "easy" majors who don't really use anything learned in college at work (except thinking and writing creatively) and less so for "hard" majors who do actually need to know stuff about biology, math, whatever to do well.
There's no answer to the "why" in the article beyond celebrity mentions and saying that businesses will pay.

I have been in a situation where this was the case: myself and another guy were the devs, and the non-programmer was the public face of the company: he did customer service, marketing, PR, specs, QA, research -- pretty much anything that we didn't have time to do. Once we got up to a significant amount of users he became overwhelmed so we hired more business people. OR you could use that time to learn how to program.
The whole point of Safebank seems to be to have it be safe. How safe a is a week-old bank started by some guy with a blog who doesn't know the difference between retail and investment banking?
People don't love their banks? I do. Bank of America gives me ATMs everywhere and pretty awesome online banking, and the credit union gives me unbelievable customer service and great interest rates.

What about the work environment? Working in a cube farm with the cheapest kind of free coffee is a lot worse than working for a company that has free Starbucks/drinks/food and that gives you a private office and lets you work from home whenever you want.
What about the interview process? I would rather work for a company that puts me through interview hell than one that just says "you've got the job."
The problem with these authoritative lists is that they're anything but.
I am working for a company that uses Microsoft stuff exclusively and it's not half bad. Sometimes I may have to fire up IE to open a page or two.
It seems to me that in this case the design is serving as a spec. If you don't have any idea what it's supposed to do it's kind of hard to build it. Then again, that seems rather obvious.
You are forgetting the risk nature of potential suitors.
If the suitors are all risk averse, that is if they perceive that the pain caused by rejection is greater than the pleasure of success, none of them will approach her. On the other hand, if the suitors are risk seeking (or even risk neutral) where pain <= success then there will be those who approach her.
There is a lot to be said regarding their perceived probability of success, and the distribution of perceptions. If unattractive and uneventful suitors are all risk seeking, chances are that they will approach Carol and be promptly rejected.
Arguing that OKC data is better than Gallup's (as the article implies) isn't a strong claim of statistical validity, it's ignorance of the basic principles of statistics.
I actually set Bing as my default search engine just to actually test it out in day-to-day searches, because testing a search engine by searching for your name or "test" is completely useless.
So far it delivers very good results, except for development topics, where Google does much much better.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bing actually does evolve into a viable competitor to Google.

It's simple supply and demand. H-1B increases the supply of programmers, which means that the price (wages) paid to them will decrease.
As for the whole "dispels the myth that globalization generates no losers," thing -- that's not really how globalization works. Labor and capital mobility, along with low impediments to trade allows for specialization, which may hurt specific industries like manufacturing in the developed world but helps others like services.
The extra programmers that were hired because they were 6% cheaper brought a lot into the US economy, and they brought a lot more to their home countries in forms of remittances. For some of these developing countries remittances are 25%+ of GDP, meaning that they are completely dependent upon them.
And of course, there is no discussion of methodology nor data.
Let the students run their own machines?
Considering the difficulty of the entry-level classes (weed out) and the fact that students often have 3-4 extra classes just like it, having them spend hours upon hours of admin work. They're training to be computer scientists not admins.
My school runs RHEL/gnome on some beefy quad-core machines. Whatever is needed for a class is installed immediately and just works. No need to spend hours hunting down packages and installing them, and then no need for the professors/TAs to spend hours upon hours of duplicating configurations in order to make sure that everything can be graded.
Students will acquire enough Unix knowledge throughout their 4 years by using a well-maintained system. Most of them spend about 10-20 hrs/week using it for development -- no need to add another 30 for sysadmin work.
The problem with using Twitter for polls is the sample (Twitter users) is very homogenous and very unrepresentative of the target population, that is unless your target population is Twitter users.
