2 years back We used to get a cabin office @Qualcomm for all Engineers same as VPs. Now Staff Engineers and above still get cabin office and others have moved to cubicles. We have a lab where most of us sit in the afternoon to collaborate. I must say this is the only place where I saw in my career where a fresh grad got cabin offices. It feels great to code in isolation uninterrupted. It also feels great to collaborate in lab with other folks and also code there.

"Living minimalistic" - life connects you more to the present. In the end, this is what matters most. But having memories makes us more empathetic by virtue of emotions. If you know yourself and connect with humanity no matter what, then living minimalistic could be great! Otherwise not!

Companies like Twitter, Facebook have rolled out (Like/Hearts/emotions) button to posts. I think "heart" button is not appropriate categorization for real time contents. Sometimes we just want to express on things if they are relevant. The emotion part "Like, heart, dislike, chill, etc" is just an aftermath to the real intent.

Problem: "heart" can not express emotion that community wants to just share, it may not necessarily be likable. Example, Tweet about violence in Middle east. I want to just not give it a "heart" but some other emotion like "disgrace, shame" etc.

Idea: To solve this problem, I would say the real symbol should be "Star", instead of "heart, like" etc. "Star" means you want to buzz in with this article but not classify your emotion. What do you think?

I think we are going to witness harder times for unicorns, in general, in the up-coming years. I agree with Sam with most of his points, but I do think there are few startup valuations that seem crazy at this moment. Those valuations will be self corrected in the course of few years or so.

Where is the developer community going 2 years from now? I think we can derive some sort of Moore's law for new languages/frameworks for JS/Web/Mobile. Objective C and now Swift. Coffee script and now Type script. JS frameworks and more frameworks. What can be the tighter bound Moore's law alternative for new frameworks and languages for Web / Mobile/ IOT. It almost always doubles every two years for sure.

Web and Mobile has many frameworks(JS/native) that can be used to solve similar problems. I am wondering how we can write code that can be re-written quickly on other frameworks as a metrics of performance tests. I definitely think that developers should test there code/app on slower/older phones. A performance mindset creates better scalable tech and can save the company a lot of money in the long run and at the same time can be a core of user experience

I would say, if we are able to show what we have built, or talk and convince intellectually as to what we are capable to build should matter more than any piece of paper. I do agree, there would be a problem of filtering the right ones for a job in lieu of a "paper degree", but I hope there comes a better way in the world to judge and educate people to be more innovative and building real incremental things rather than just getting 'paper degrees'"
