jQuery is still shipped with WordPress and Drupal, two of the most popular CMSes out there. So I'm sure that accounts for some of it.

Ads would've resulted in people complaining about user experience. And no one pays a full "lifetime" for anything. For an acquisition like this it's usually a multiple of 5 years of earnings. Probably more because of the popularity.

Laravel is a terrific framework, and if you're building the project from scratch it's my suggestion purely from a maintainability standpoint. It's widely adopted and is decoupled nicely.

Drupal is a fine off the shelf CMS that is very extensible. I'd argue it has framework like features, but with the goal to extend CMS capabilities.

I don't know enough about your use case to suggestion one over the other.

The most important thing written in this post was "A professional picks the right tool for the job." Sometimes WordPress is the right tool for the job, other times it is not.

This applies to software development and engineering too. Pick the right tool (stack) to solve the problem at-hand with an eye towards lifecycle maintenance. As a professional developer for 10+ years, that's one of the most important things I've learned.

I don't know the politics of Silicon Valley well enough to say whether or not PH is rigged, but I agree the challenge is cultivating the community, not developing the software.

Interesting thought, but if I wanted career advice I'd ask Hacker News, since I'm a software engineer and the folks here are a great resource. If I was a chef, I would ask for career advice from a similar online community or subreddit. Point being, an online community about a specific interest is where the experts for that topic would reside and those are the people I want to ask.

The value lies in those communties. Creating my own community platform is something I've been noodling for some time. Reddit is terrific, but it's cookie cutter and not exactly feature rich.

Does anyone know if the Sublime Text 2 plugins are compatible with version 3? I've never done a Sublime Text upgrade. TIA!

I can vouch for /r/entrepeneur and /r/startups. It's my first time visiting both inbound.org and growthhackers.com, they look like excellent resources too. From a quick poke around they seem to be proprietary CMSes \ community software, anyone know if I'm wrong about that?
