Monorepo (on git) has been awesome for us the last 5 years or so.

In my world view (also OpenBazaar developer) I think OpenBazaar shouldn't make false promises on delivering anonymity, not even Bitcoin can do that.
I believe that OpenBazaar's initial motive was to distance itself from DarkMarkets as the opportunity to directly link people worldwide for trade without intermediaries, or barriers of entry to the market outweight the needs of those looking to trade anonymously.
I foresee market forces killing off the sellers that prefer to remain anonymous and misterious unless they're selling special items.
In practice I believe people will be less scared to transact with someone who has an identity, who can be accountable. Honor and trust are necessary for all kinds of commerce.
If it were up to me, I'd build OpenBazaar to work flawlessly on the OpenInternet, if anybody needs to use the technology in a different way the code is open and I'm sure they'll find a way to try to hide themselves, but I think it's a fool's errand, no amount of Tor will hide you from the authorities if they want to get you.
I think the size of illegal markets as big as they can be are minuscule compared to the new era of trade I envision, never in our history we have been able to directly trade with anybody else out there. Centralized ecommerce outfits like ebay and amazon have only given us a glimpse of what's possible, but as good as they are, they can't scale to 100% of the planet, I believe a great p2p solution can do this and the consequences of this will be of historic importance.
This slide stack will give you the bigger picture OpenBazaar should be going after http://www.slideshare.net/yiibu/the-emerging-global-web
Worrying ourselves with pleasing users that want to be on Tor, at this point in time, I believe is a waste of time that draws the wrong kind of attention to the project. There's a much bigger opportunity to be seized, a truly world changing one.
"The increased risk of psychotic symptoms only applies to strains which have a high ratio of THC to Cannabidiol (i.e. Sativa strains)"
no problem, just smoke Kush which seems to be very popular nowadays.
can it be used to predict market trends? instead of topics use stock tickers?
google talk was killed too. Now it's all G+
and you cannot use it on desktop mode. So, IMing and working on something else at the same time? impossible.
Microsoft trying to shove the tablet experience on the desktop is going to hurt them big time. Now they kill MSN messenger, all latin america will be very sad, they still use that software down there.
did you try skype on Windows 8? there's no way to use it as an IM client on a Window (unless you install an older version)
Microsoft is on a roll of dementia.
of course no firm would respond to his noob low yield model.
The level of the coders doing HFT is beyond the comprehension of this guy, added to the team of Mathematicians, Physicists and computer scientists at your average HFT firm, they probably laugh when they read this.
Good try though, it was awesome that eventually he tuned it to profitability, but there's no way in hell they'd buy that amateur software/algorithm.
Kudos though for taking on the task of learning how to code and making money with ML.
" // Compute the distance along the path using a map-reduce." lol
Where in Brooklyn do they want to do this? North Greenpoint?
good selling points, but those things never made it a good language, it was just convenient.
Again?
"Bing won 0 rounds"
meh, not sure what the "pain" is if you code like a god on eclipse. scala or xtend is java for pussies.
I think this conversation should be less about the electric vehicles and more about the idea of creating a decentralized solar grid. And one that will encourage existing gas station owners to do the same and bank on all that lost solar energy.
Did anyone else think of opening their own charging station(s)?
I think the big news here is that someone is creating a distributed electric plant with social benefits to attract customers to buy their cars, pretty brilliant and world changing ideas. Why not join the fun?
Even if there's not enough Tesla or other electric vehicles coming to your station you'll at least be making your money back on solar energy generation and selling coffee, internet, etc. to customers that come in.
Tesla doesn't have to be the sole provider for the free charges.
hell no, it's been a breath of really fresh air for us, we've been building all sorts of things, no problems so far. (including logging several millions of requests per day and performing distributed map reduce for all sorts of statistical models on a tiny 3 machine "cluster" we run on AWS, I hope I never have to go back to modifying schemas again, so much simpler to run and build with this mindset)
don't see why, they're using the youtube player and the same youtube search results.
However, why even do this if you can do exactly the same on the youtube website or inside google+
Doesn't really add any value that youtube already gives you.
Search for non music and the illusion dies.
Cool UI though.
"it's a mobile OS powered by JavaScript!"
fail. I hope you can code in something else than javascript. We have to DEAL with Javascript on the browser because browser vendors haven't bothered supporting other more superior languages, wouldn't it be nice to have type="text/python", type="text/ruby" as options, have threads, native datatypes, real OO, logical variable scoping, better numeric precision and all the things that javascript was not meant for?
I hope more big time CEOs come out and say that not everything is meant to be written with HTML5. It's like we're raising a generation of moronic programmers with all this HTML5 hype.
Issues I have with HTML5:
- Javascript
- Javascript
- Javascript
- Fragmentation like no other
- Lack of APIs
- Sandboxed environment
- A bunch of morons writing "frameworks" without a clue of computer science (same thing as many popular Wordpress PHP plugins written by people who have no clue of even how memory allocation is supposed to work)
- A bunch of other morons copying and pasting the work of other morons.
- No real memory management
- No real anything or poor support at anything (no sockets, no primitive types, no threads, cross domain BS)
- Internet Explorer
- Javascript
- Internet Explorer
- Javascript
...
It's just not what the foundation was meant for.
It only took Steve Jobs talking about how bad flash was and closing the endless array of development options that we have outside Objective-C and HTML5 to make the world try to reinvent the wheel in javascript, all the while ignoring the fact we have more powerful desktop computers than ever, all the while putting more money in the pockets of those that run cloud infrastructure.
I hope more guys like Zuck come out on the record and let the world know this is ludacris, that all these decades working on out of this world compiler optimizations and technology that's light years away from the browser can't be forgotten.
Yes, we need to be in the browser, but give me a break, Javascript?
It's just sad seeing the turn of events of our industry going in this direction, I'm glad of this whole "App" revolution and Zuckerberg saying this at his first appearance after the IPO, I hope it sobers up a bunch of decision makers.
How is this Hacker News, Chinese game portals are full of stolen games. No matter what you will do, they will reverse engineer and remove ads and blocks.
It's china, the land of counterfeit.
reminds me of odeo.
What really needs to happen here is that there needs to be a truly free social stream service for the internet, owned by none and by all.
Only then you will have total developer freedom, and no censorhip possible.
If you've also been thinking about this for the last 2 weeks, drop a line.
Think of IRC evolved (message horizon based on #tags not rooms, just like Twitter), syndicated, P2P Server Network, served over HTTP to the end user so that it has all of what Twitter has to offer (maybe a few more characters)
would love to think together with people who like tough challenges about a new HTTP on top of P2P architecture to solve this and other problems to leave a new arm of the internet for our kids.
There's just one thing that's odd here.
How do you avoid Marketers disguised as developers?
You will still get the ads no matter what one way or another.
Let's help Li with a list of resources to learn how to Draw, Paint, Illustrate, Graffiti, Stencil, etc.
So far we only have this one: http://www.drawspace.com/

to see how a shitty and slow language runs atop an even worst language, I can't believe this got to the homepage.
you should waste your time solving more useful puzzles. Head into Machine Learning for example, or if you are into VMs, why not try creating a Java VM on top of Cocoa for Android developers to invade iOS, that'll have more impact and you will have to learn some serious compiler theory.
"Let's take one of the worse languages and run it atop an even worse one."
it's just that the syntax of ObjC is a total mind fuck. Wish you could code in whatever you wanted and then compile to native code with a plain compiler, no need for the UI designer BS. Just give me a Java to native compiler and wrappers to all the Cocoa libraries.
why? why? why? starts to bang head against desk
can't wait for a world free of PHP and JS, and you go and create a VM in JS of... PHP.
