People would ask it to generate something like a picture of a German couple in 1820 and it would spit out images of Asian and Black couples.

Pictures of the founding fathers would also include weird things like native Americans and other ethnicities.

Other historical prompts would result in the same output - no white people.

When going on a road trip Tesla calculates the time based on the route you put into navigation.

Obviously it will give a different estimate than stop and go traffic and starting the vehicle without pre-conditioning the battery.

Tesla does a great job with their scheduling functionality that lets you pre-condition battery before you leave and even when you near a supercharger to maximize charging efficiency of the battery.

ICE vehicles have lower range as well when going uphill or exceeding the optimal speed and increasing air drag.

The estimates are based on driving on a flat road at the speed limit.

Even my Lexus SUV can get 24mpg driving on 35-45mph roads vs 16-19 in the city or going to the mountains where elevation increases.

People's understanding of range is just not quite there yet whether it's for an ICE vehicle or an EV.

I hired a lawn scaping guy after dealing with leaves and bushes by myself. The guy did a decent job the first time he serviced the yard. The subsequent times he showed up for 15 minutes trimmed the tiny grass area in front of my house and left, when he was supposed to do much more. I caught him on the ring camera and after 2-3 times of him coming by for just 15 mins to hit the yard with an edger and bill me $100 , I fired him.

Then I bought the tools and did my own yard work for a few months. I got tired of it and saw my neighbor had a hard working guy maintaining his yard. Got that guy hired and now I don’t do my own yard work anymore and the guy I hired is cheaper and more thorough when he does my landscaping.

Because they were staffing for projects and teams. Some projects got shutdown so the teams / staff is no longer needed.

Depending on where your customer base is, the fraudulent transactions usually come from like the middle east, eastern europe, and other countries. See if you can track where those transactions are originating from HTTP request wise.

You might be able to just block traffic from those regions if it does not impact your business and customer base.

Not the best or cleanest solution, but when Stripe fails to handle fraud for you, you've got to get creative and hit the problem from all angles.

Somewhat related anecdote --

Executives at my company in a non-tech industry who are running a skeleton crew in the IT department are using the economy and tech industry layoffs to try and withhold bonuses and treating employees like disposable garbage.

They seem to think that the 2-3 people doing the work for 10 is OK and that somehow low key insinuating that current tech industry changes like chatGPT will replace our jobs, even though they don't know the difference between IT roles vs Software Engineer's roles and responsibilities.

I wonder if this is true for other non-tech company's IT departments where the execs are clueless in terms of how technology actually works.

If I had the financial stability to quit today and take a year off I would, hoping I can get there by end of year.

I read an article somewhere that discusses how Toyota has the most battery patents out of any company and also owns most of the solid state patents and are actually working on commercializing solid state batteries for vehicles.

The point I think the article was trying to make is that while everyone is focused on lithium ion, Toyota was biding it’s time and getting ready to one-up everyone with solid state batteries and vehicles with double the range.
