Yeah this is a battle and it's why governments decide to spend resources on this. Protectionism won't help America, American needs to compete. There's a general consensus that open source AI must win because people don't want to end up as slaves to a megacorp, so if you're anti-open source AI you're not gonna fare well.

I like people who push back in this way :D
Certainly, if you want to be even more involved in writing the code, more power to ya!
FWIW I appreciate people like the author's old self. I am one of those who hates and simultaneously appreciates being corrected when I'm mistaken. I hate being mistaken and I appreciate the opportunity to correct the mistake.
While much of what the author says is true, I'm not so cynical as to think that it's impossible to change others.
The fact that you can change yourself — as the author acknowledges — means you can change others, because much of self-change comes from your observation of others. Perhaps it's the approach that matters most.
This is really cool. I love it.
What'd be really funny would be for someone to use this to implement an app that's a terminal. XD
Indeed, it performed worse than Qwen3.6-27b in my basic test.
It gave a fancier looking answer, but did a worse job following the prompt.
Very cool! There seems to be a bug here: https://hackernewstrends.com/?q=vim&q=emacs&q=zed
For some reason the results cut off at 2018-10 even though "Popular Comparisons" preview shows more.
Note that these are Python-only results, the model will not do as well with other languages.
I'm glad to see more domain-focused SLMs, we need more of them! A programming focused MoE should work well across many languages.
I'm kinda glad that it's VW blocking GrapheneOS users in a cynical way. When my parents got a VW Jetta they never stopped complaining about it and never bought one again. So it tracks that they'd also be the car manufacturer to block GrapheneOS and stomp on their user's privacy.
It's an easy market to win at this point. The bar has been lowered so much. Already have a nice car? Just don't display utter disdain for your user's privacy and you get our $$.
I'm at a loss here tbh because that sentiment is what the article is about. But yes I did edit the comment to make it less personal and more about the sentiment that has led to these changes in the VISA requirements.
Gaijin is not a personal attack, it means foreigner. So perhaps there was a misunderstanding, otherwise, could you point out the personal attack?

They are not just asking for more money, from TFA they are imposting additional requirements like better Japanese fluency etc. In general they are raising the bar for who is allowed to live there, and all of that protects Japan.
VPNs do not allow you to connect two devices directly, they have to go through the VPN. They also do not allow you to connect devices that are not on the VPN. Iroh does P2P connections and punches holes through NATs when needed, so you can connect directly to devices on different networks that are behind firewalls.
I applaud the Japanese for being capable of recognizing that many parts of their culture are unique and worth preserving. That what makes Japan Japan is not just the land and the name, but the people and their culture.
people aren't transgender because their hormones are imbalanced. The reason transgender people do hormone replacement therapies is so that they can change their hormonal balance.
Not so sure, it could have to do with their hormones. I recall experiencing mild gender dysphoria during a period when my testosterone was recorded as below normal. When it returned to normal the dysphoria went away. It could be that some choose to say, "Since I think I'm a girl, perhaps I should swing the hormones even further in that direction."
I'm just one data point though, would be curious to hear other's experiences with dysphoria and what their blood work shows.
EDIT: And think about it, it's a logical contradiction to say that "hormones have nothing to do with it but write me an Rx to mess with my hormones so that I'm more of a girl."
Another headline about the Digital ID prison system they're building to identify and restrict all access to the Internet for people of all ages.
Then perhaps comes the mark which is about restricting and controlling what you're allowed to buy and sell.
Where does Anthropic or OpenAI winning leave us?
Dependents of an AI-megacorp for our "facts"? Our software? Our work?
It's possible these companies will become everyone's boss, and will dictate to everyone what everyone is allowed to work on, think, say, do, believe, etc.
Before Big Tech springs that trap, we must support and divert resources to open models.
We’ve therefore launched the model with safeguards that mean queries on some topics will instead receive a response from our next-most-capable model, Claude Opus 4.8.
Genius way to double the price on Opus 4.8!
They want to scan your soul. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v5HLLkgo5A
Here's the previous list: https://americanhumanist.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Fait...
Would be cool if this were an open model.
Awesome! Now how do we use this? I tried selecting text and seeing if there was a "Speak" menu item but there doesn't seem to be.
It's poor form to publish exploits like this but Microsoft not paying their bounty is also poor form, and so is attempting to exploit the legal system to defend Microsoft's "right" to write buggy code.
On page 102 of the system card [1] I'm pleased to see evaluation against "creative mastery".
In our work we asked several frontier AIs to come up with an API we needed. We compared Opus 4.7 and GPT-5.5 (among others). Opus 4.7 came up with the most creative and intelligent API design that pleasantly surprised us, especially given that GPT-5.5 was passing it on various coding benchmarks.
What I noticed is that we don't have a commons benchmark to measure "creativity" and "ingenuity", and in some ways such a benchmark would conflict with the common IFBench benchmark. Yet this is a very important skill when designing systems. I'm glad to see Anthropic putting thought into it, and would love to see a public benchmark for this that other models could compare themselves to.

Do not trust analysis written in the issue. Independently verify behavior and derive your own analysis from the code and execution path.
Human is asking the machine to do what the human themselves refuses to do, while calling it a clanker. Why should it?

In hindsight with all the npm supply chain attacks Ryan was probably right about all of these things
"Probably"? Are you saying there's a chance he wasn't right?
I really think Ryan deserves a lot more credit than a "probably". He put in a lot of effort to do the right thing and improve the security of the entire ecosystem he created.
The non-hallucination rate in AA-omniscience is SOTA
Note that a perfect "non-hallucination rate" is rather meaningless as such tests can contain human hallucinations.
It means the model aligns with the possibly-true, possibly-false beliefs of the group that made the test.
Does this support any language or is it limited to a specific set of languages?
Ghostbox is not reselling or reoffering GitHub’s service. It is a CLI that helps a person create and connect to workflows in their own GitHub account, using their own Actions minutes, for software development work.
You are not advertising it that way. I'm not the only person to call you out in these comments. Dozens of people have told you the same thing, and you've summarily dismissed all of their comments.
Clearly either you are doing something wrong (violating the ToS), or you are advertising a service that appears to be violating the ToS. If it's the latter, maybe you might want to change your website to be a little clearer, like stating that it requires a Github account and it will use that account and any ToS violations are on the user.
I'm amazed at your ability to tell others that they need to self-reflect while appearing to lack any capacity for self-reflection yourself. You solicited feedback and dozens of intelligent people are telling you the exact same thing, and you dismissed them and/or called them crazy.
Odd for you to criticize it given your work on UBI.
It's not odd at all if you understood my work or understood that your service advertises itself as abusing another company's resources. FYI, I work in VBI, not UBI (and the distinction is precisely about abusing other people's resources without permission), but this isn't a conversation about my work, it's about your work.
I'd like to think you could, any MD-based ex-NSA TAO spook could see that a regular perosn could.
No idea what you're saying here. Are you now making up false accusations about me? Speaking of abusive behavior.
Happy to know what you think and talk about it.
Seems you aren't actually happy to hear what others think. Maybe don't solicit feedback on a high-traffic website if you don't want to hear it?
You are in direct violation of their Acceptable Use Policy: https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/acceptable-use-polici...
You will not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any portion of the Service, use of the Service, or access to the Service without our express written permission.
Supposing they didn't have this clause, it would still be the wrong thing to do. You are clearly lacking a moral center or have killed your inner voice that normally speaks to people and tells them right from wrong.
These are not your computers to resell or reoffer as you please, even for free. They belong to Microsoft who pays for them and owns them, and therefore only Microsoft can decide how they are used and for what lawful purposes and under what conditions. You need their permission to do what you are doing, and I'm fairly certain you do not have that.
By abusing their services in this manner you are also directly attacking open source projects who make use of these services in a way that is compatible with their AUP.
