I think it's the idea that if you price your software too low then it's value will be perceived as low. You then have customers paying a low price for a low (perceived) value product and you're into a death spiral.

Most of them yes. Lots of innocent people are caught up in this too. For example, many women joined the site to try and find out if their husbands were having an affair. Other people had third parties use their pictures and emails used to sign up.

This is the first time I've seen the .ie TLD (ireland) used in a technical context. It's a cool idea given the Microsoft context.

Only added the banner recently. I'll experiment with only showing it further into the content.

I agree that the color is too bright. There's sometimes a fine line between being intrusive and not being noticed at all.

For example, I don't show the banner until you're 30% of the way through the article because I don't want to annoy people who haven't even started reading (and thus have got zero value).

The orange banner will disappear mods remove the ?ref=hn from the URL.
