Edit: I haven't read much into the btc white paper or code but, as a layman I believe Dimon's comments may be a fundamental misunderstanding of how btc's blockchain and "decentralized" nature works

anedcotally, i've known this to be true about myself for years. my typed notes, while MUCH faster, are rarely as well memorized (on first pass) as my hand written notes.

Anyone know if the dev lurks here? I'm wondering if there's a way to fork his code or add Kroger functionality to it. If im not mistaken Kroger is a safeway acquisition that is a popular grocer in the south/southwest of the USA. this would be very helpful for those of us without safeways.

well do you think that perhaps, setting the voltage and other continental variance requirements aside, that repair manuals for products released in EU will coinside (somewhat) for products in the USA? This could potentially be a game changer for USA repair enthusiasts as we will have SOME form of foundational documentaion to go on when attempting a repair (or at least i hope)

And on a side note: Funny how tractors and agricultural equipment were stricken from USA's right to repair and intellectual property laws.

I watched a right to repair video that suggested that if/when a right to repair law gets signed in the United States that it will cause OEMs to provide repair parts/manuals for not only that state but the rest of the country as well because it would be infeasible to maintain two separate "lines" for the same device.

Does anyone know if this holds true between continents such as Europe and America as well? IE: Because OEMs have right to repair laws in Europe they may just go ahead and furnish America with them as well so they dont have to maintain two separate product lines?

i went to school with many kids in what were called "k-level" courses (high school courses in early grades before courses with dual credit were offered)

I often noticed how they could read MUCH faster than i could, and appeared to be actually retaining the information.

Me personally, if i read too fast im literally just "seeing" the words on the paper pass my eyes. I could read a sentence very fast, out loud, and not understand it.

I've always been a slow reader. My sister took speed reading "lessons"(?) when we were younger, apparently she had a problem with reading so my parents felt the need to enroll her in some type of weekend (speed?) reading program that was held at a hotel conference center in a trendy area of our city... it was probably snake oil because i only recall her going once or twice then never returning (perhaps the program was only a day or two long? even worse? how do you really learn anything?)

And I had her share the speed reading techniques with me in an attempt to learn to read faster myself but never could do so.

I dont think that speed reading is all that its cracked up to be.

I'm glad this was posted here because it echoes the philosophy of a late (18th?) century philosopher who i cannot remember the name of. Perhaps some of the other well-read minds of hacker news can remind me what his name is.

Basically he's an ehticist, an economist, and a philosopher and he also promotes a "value system" in his philosophy that states that buying a home for any othe reason than to live in it yourself is ethically/morally wrong.

I have been looking for his name for ages since i found it first, should've bookmarked it, never did. Now i desperately want to find him and re-read some of his works as well as his wiki page.

Edit: His name might be Henry George and his philosophy Georgism. Does that sound right to any of yall? Or is it someone else I'm thinking of?

I remember Baldurs gate, sure. But i dont recall Baldurs gate being anywhere near as important to the survival of Computer RPG's than Diablo, and more importantly Diablo II. If i'm not mistaken DII had macintosh support out-of-box, and is still played to this day on battle.net

i think that commenters have been pretty good about identifying paywalls and commenting with a link that outlines the doc to provide a succinct representation of the article

also anyone who is not familiar with the way outline works is you just type outline.com/<your-full-http://-link-here> and it generates an outline of the doc.

this is more than just useful for paywall articles i use it all the time to get rid of ads and other annoying stuff when i just want to "read" an article.

Fake news or not your point is still valid, a clear, correct, and non-biased title is basically day one for anyone writing an article, if your title cannot be trusted...neither can your content?

yeah in my hometown-Houston there was already a popular nightclub from the 90's (The Roxy?) that was a reused car dealership or some-such so it wasn't too out of the box to be done...its just nightclubs are one thing... healthy athletic alternatives for kids is another (which was my primary idea)

edit: this is a moot point now, but back in the late 90's and early 00's Houston had a serious lack of skateparks which is no longer an issue. Luckily im now an adult and dont really have the time to make use of them like i would've as a kid

When i was between the ages of 18-21 in the middle of the 07+ economic crisis i noticed all these "abandoned" car dealerships in my area... grocery stores, etc.

I always thought a good repurposing of these buildings would've been:

-Skate parks or other athletic venue (maybe a gym if the building was the right size?)

-Clubs/Dancehalls

-Concert Venues

-Intermittent Rental for Parties/Weddings things of that nature (you setup you break down, just an empty building to host a party)

I guess the rental idea could be used for a number of practical purposes if one had an idea that they thought it would be good for.

am i reading this right? are they coming up with a way to use IP to broadcast "television" in the sense that, if this was finished and open source that "anyone" could feasibly run their own "television channel/station" (edit: over IP) ?
