A monthly thing makes no sense; just letting hobbyists dabble until they are in a place to pay used to be a lot more normal. They ought to make the entry for paying a bit less heartburn-inducing, though.
Thats exactly what they do. They dont charge at all even if they do make loads of money.
The thing is, Cycles is fully open sourced... so there is no real secret behind it!
I believe that the answer is yes it will happen... the question is when will that point will occur.
Right now, we are in a transition period... Models are improving, but they are not capable just yet to take over.
Where do you see it being in a years time? or 2? or 5?
Thats the thing, what if the codebases had CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md files, which clearly dictated that
A) tests need to pass
B) anything you write needs tests
C) the code quality must adhere to these standards
etc.etc.... Helping the LLMs that people Vibe code with, produce better quality results.
By not having these in place, it means people who want to help out, cant. because htey dont understand whats going on.
adding stuff to these files, woudl allow developers to give guidelines / guardrails for developement using these agents.
Should the barrier of entry be someone who knows how to code? or should the barrier of entry be someone who is motivated to help with open-source software.
The thing is, it doesnt need to beat 4.7. it just needs to do somewhat well against it.
This is free... as in you can download it, run it on your systems and finetune it to be the way you want it to be.

On the way to the hospital, ChatGPT was pretty confident it was a issue with my gallbladder due to me having a fatty meal for lunch (but it was delicious).
After an extended wait time to be seen, they didnt ask about anything like that, and at the end they were like anything else to add, added it in about ChatGPT / Gallbladder... discharged 5 minutes later with suspicion of Gallbladder as they couldnt do anything that night.
Over the next few weeks, got test after test after test, to try and figure out whats going on. MRI. CT. Ultrasound etc.etc. they all came back negative for the gallbladder.
ChatGPT was persistant. It said to get a HIDA scan, a more specialised scan. My GP was a bit reluctant but agreed. Got it, and was diagnosed with a hyperkinetic gallbladder. It is still unrecognised as an issue, but mostly accepted. So much so my surgeon initally said that it wasnt a thing (then after doing research about it, says it is a thing)... and a gastroentologist also said it wasnt a thing.
Had it taken out a few weeks ago, and it was chroically inflammed. Which means the removal was the correct path to go down.
It just sucks that your wife was on the other end of things.

The compositing, would take the denoised 3d render, and add other imperfections such as film grain, bloom, and other post effects.

I have been working in the CG / 3D industry for quite some time... when i first started about 15 years ago... Maya was the default... everyone knew it, it was THE default. That being said we have been on blender since 2.5 days.
I was talking to someone on the weekend, and found out they were studying animation... i was like oh so youre using Maya? they were like whats maya?
There has been a massive shift. I think there was a new era brought about when 2.8 was released. With it, they really pushed their dev fund, which helped them to get better, which made them bigger, which got them more donations, which made them get better. Cyclical loop.
Im excited to see where they go next.

Their electricity prices always have been expensive by Australian standards. However despite the investment of billions replacing coal and gas with wind and solar, those prices have dropped a little. They expect to complete the transition and be 100% renewable this decade.
I think this is one of the drivers for people installing solar on their houses... We have a solar rate of 40% in the state. People want to reduce their powerbill as much as possible, which in turn helps us become more and more 'Green'.
The problem is in summer when the solar input into the grid, vastly outweighs the demand, and the demand spikes with all the airconditioning clicking on in the evening.
Energy Storage (Batteries), plays a huge part in our state becoming self-reliant in a green way.

I think it should be compared to Nuke instead of After Effects... After Effects works more with timelines and effects... Nuke is node based, which is what Natron has built itself to mimick.

For server marketshare, intel vastly dominates (80%?). For gaming marketshare, Intel still has 60-70% the marketshare.
Marketshare is one thing, but saying they are the best but the marketshare is 60-70% is a totally different metric.
Its saying oh Toyota has the best cars because they ship the most... but they cant be as good as a Lambo / Ferrari because they dont ship the most.

In terms of gaming cpus, they definetly are neck and neck with performance.
But yes you are right, Intels chips arent something you would throw away in the trash. They are good chips. They need to stick around. Its just that you cant say marketshare makes them the best.
So I work daily in resolve. I had a project come up at home, where i was like oh ill just use resolve as it has everything we need.
Within 2 minutes, I was running into features i needed to pay for. Within 20 minutes I had bought a home copy because of how integral it is to my workflow.
They get people in by being able to do the basics, but anything remotely complex, you pay for.
