If I've not crossed into personal attack, why my comments are not visible? If Mr Meel chooses to contest any of the facts stated here, he can do it publicly, here at Ycombinator.

The thread is just a headsup to those, who are not well informed on the issues and the word caste triggers them. The effort is to provide factual data along with the circumstances so that people can weight and relate all kind of arguments with their own life experiences. Also, help our white bois/gals understand what they talking about lol.
If you're from IIT, you must be aware there is clear difference in the performance of those who come on quota(like oBC, SC, ST etc) and those without quota. If you extrapolate the same academic performance throughout the students career, and assuming for the incoming class of 1000 have to select 10 professor on the academic performance, who it's gonna be? The dude who came on quota or the dudes who were off the chart in the tests? Do you suggest we should also appoint professors and give grants based on the caste?
Category : Cutoff Score for IIT ( out of 100)
Common Rank List :90.7788642 (Brahmins, upper castes which Ycombinator hates)
Gen-EWS:75.6229025
OBC-NCL:73.6114227 : Mr Kuldeep meel (based on his caste)
SC:51.9776027
ST:37.2348772
PwD:0.0013527
I would say 73 is minuscule in comparison of 90. Kuldeep is a typical Kota kid, he is not someone coming out from rural India. I wish him best. Sad to see he stopped so low for clicks.

Hey Reuters, may be once in a while do write about how USA lawfully discriminates against Indians in Green card process, in the name of diversity! Thank you.
I guess there won't be any protests like muslim ban, this time.
No one knew about pandemic. No one knew we all can work remote. It's a mix day for folks who are cheering up ban. It proves work can be done be remotely. But how remote we be, is yet to be determined.
One have to put things in prerspective. It took 40-50 years for the silicon valley to become what is is today. Once there are enough tech presence in Canada, tech situation would improve. There would be ample amount of tech folks, and new innovations would come along. New companies would be founded and things would be at par, or even better. Anyhow I see, US heading towards political turmoil/instability.
I don't think same would happen in Canada. What US lawmakers have done, is to put a tap on green card basis on the country of origin. Indians on H1B wouldn't get their green card, in their life time, period. If there were no Indians waiting for green card, it wouldn't have been a big issue. It is by design. Indians are new B
I wish you a long and happy life. I'm sure surgery will go fine and you'll be alright! A colleague of mine went through some surgery(appendicitis), and he was bedridden for a while. I think he was on paid leave. I believe, one would have more leverage with current employer, where you have established goodwill to cash. I would suggest, stick with the current employer, for now. One may also hire lawyer, if you're concerned about surgical complications. Once you are out of the hospital, well healed, then start a new adventure! One problem at a time.
Thank you :)
-I was laid off ~60 days back. Being on H1B( I'm an indian, who attended school here and been living here since last 10 years) means either I gotta get a job in 2 months or pack my bag. I got a better job and I'm gonna start working on this monday :) - Good physical health, decent mental health. Universe have been very kind to me. I wish this kindness persists and I could become better self of myself.
Happy thanksgiving to y'all!
I was suggest AWS certifications.
Stop hating! If you are sitting with incompetent people you're incompetent too! Why doesn't she apply for O1 visa? You know nothing about nothing.
Disclaimer: I'm on H1B too, graduated from Rice CS.
lol. Yeah, if schools can commit to it, top notch online lectures from top notch schools, will surely turn not-so-good-profs into a tenured TA.
Not everyone gets h4 EAD. Someone who have approved I-140 but couldn't get Green card due to country backlog, may get EAD. So essentially these are families who have been stuck in green card limbo for years in some cases for 10+ years, because they are from India.
You're right, not until they are sent to gas chambers. /s
Given the choice, that half the salary would still seem attractive? Isn't it. Now being in same time zone, closer to US SV, native s/w engineers would have to compete fiercely. I wonder, how would folks react over competition with Canadian tech industry.
I think this statement is false by nature. If one have secured visa, assuming following law, is something like saying that Cisco have engineers on H1b. Taha, whole world knows that, it's in public domain. This is like saying Google or some other firm is using H1B employee.
From the article a)approximately 80% of full-time graduate students in computer science and electrical engineering at U.S. universities are international students.
b)Economists Giovanni Peri, Kevin Shih and Chad Sparber notes “A 1 percentage point increase in the foreign STEM share of a city’s total employment increased the wage growth of native college-educated labor by about 7–8 percentage points and the wage growth of non-college-educated natives by 3–4 percentage points.”
it's absolutely possible to spend whole winter in a thin cotton shirt, but most of us prefer not to do.
I disagree. Incentive to get recurring business mandates integration. Also, if the presence is not sizable enough, they would largely go unnoticed, so, integrate or not, it doesn't matter.
"economic migrants" need almost zero training. However, I do agree that this will put pressure on already complacent welfare system, or group of people and may cause new economic, social regrouping, wealth distribution etc. To provide services, one would be incentivized to integrate.
Probability + Undergrad statistics interpretations. Never feel confident.
"turing machines" are cs 101?
I have stumbled upon Algorithms (by Sanjoy Dasgupta Algorithms (Author), Christos H. Papadimitriou Algorithms (Author), Umesh Vazirani). I find it, good for beginners, without being overwhelming. It goes like prose and not terse.
Please read the implicit sarcasm.
Amazon can think they will build fedex in next 1 year. I think they're out of their depth. Building software is much different than building manual labour centric systems. Their efforts will be fruitless. To build a shopping website, where things are pretty much well interfaced, it took them, 20 years. Though, they do deserve credit for AWS. Again human systems aren't analogues to software system. They have fortune to spent, so let's spent.
Twitter is the world's news paper now. I think, as world newspaper, it is worth it's value.
I would suggest folks to watch netflix tv series “Dirty Money".
