Agree, they also may find themselves in a place where the government rightly says they can't have their dangerous new toy because they can't be safe with it. This is a high stakes PR game. Governments can and will step in and embargo and regulate these systems in ways which will hurt the companies and investors.

So how it works is, you grow the bloom in a massive pond. Wait for it to fully fill up, skim half the pond, add more nutrients and then agitate. With the algae you skimmed off you dry it out then compress it into a brick and burry it. In a 100K years we can the burn it for coal power again. And then repeat that until you've grown enough biomass to match the amount of Carbon put in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution.

Heat is a system stressor. There's plenty of people having heart attacks and dying from weight related issues that probably got pushed over the edge by a hot day in Nevada that are missed in official stats.

In government you have to deliver, most of the time the mode of delivery is boring, small, conservative, and disjointed from other government groups because large efforts of work attract big budgets, oversight and doubt.

Consultants are magic, because they come with no baggage and promise the world. They take you hostage with sunk cost fallacy and then after years they deliver something.

At the end you're so tired you think that what they did was beyond your government agency and the cycle continues.

Its exactly the same as 10 years ago and being able to google and search well for odd support bugs. Junior people think it's easy and they don't see the massive skill in framing questions and filtering.

It just needs to be described in a more concrete way to people. Such as, You know how the podcasts you listen to keep getting updated on your phone? That's RSS. Imagine if other things you liked turned up when they were new and you had a lot of control over that process.

I was thinking about this very thing today. Personally, I see the Windows OS as a core competency of Microsoft. If the OS is bad, then the company is being run badly. In the same as when you go to a fine restaurant and the kitchen have the polished pots and pans you can see, generally things are going to be great. Its the attention to detail, If those small details are right, then the whole meal will be good. And currently the whole meal is crap with windows.

I would say children having worse prospects than their parents at the same age is a good indicator of it. The big issues IMO are: The housing market locking out young people and The jobs market being brutal to graduates.

Things are not so great at the moment.

I was always stuck by how different all the cars in the BYD line are. There are some pretty bold styling and fitout choices between the models.

I have mostly driven BMW and Toyota sedan and fwd's. And as you progress in car price and size its a matter of getting more features, and a better version over the cheaper model.

Well as far as storing it goes, if you can capture it, turn it into a solid and stick it in the ground.

Imagine you were growing a huge biomass that you harvest, dry out, and then store. We know how the bacteria and processes that stripped co2 from the atmosphere in the past, we just need to do that in a big way. Good thing we have places on earth that are huge and flat and growing algae won't be a problem.

In a case of the worst person you know makes a great point, Jordan Peterson was remarking a few years back about how Youtube and MOOC's were really the new universities of the modern age. If you want knowledge it's there for the taking.

The legacy institutions really are just a stamp / sorting hat for young people these days.

For the money people spend these days on education, you'd think there'd be grounds for refunds based on false advertising of the product.
