Other than that I think as phaus just said, the fact to contribute positively to society is a big argument. If your company can't deliver on cash advantage, maybe remote work and social event shoudl be push forward.

I'm part of a generation who didn't grew up with the PDP but had LOGO and basic available in computers and calculators. With the Amstrad CPC it was possible to interupt a program and to change a few lines of code to make it do something else which was a great way to keep interested. And with calculator it was possible to code formulas to resolve/check problems.

But how would you teach programming today to a kid? Would you choose a particular medium such as a computer, a raspberry pi or even a tablet?

And if I may, do you recommend any reading for bedtime stories?

Why only the SF area? It could be very interesting to see if it's any different in London or Bangkok? I've heard some very interesting experiences about some hackerspaces in Germany too.

I think there's no proper to learn something, but I find useful to have several resources available. For example it could be interesting to read the source code of jQuery (or something smaller such as http://zeptojs.com/ or https://lodash.com/) and to read a book at the same time (http://eloquentjavascript.net/) and why not trying to make parallel between them. Also don't hesitate to google stackoverflow for javascript question as it is likely that you'll found any answer to your questions. To finish I think having friends or a mentor will help you a lot.

Hey very good idea, I've always thought to do that by myself, ie posting several ads to teach how to program. But I was actually thinking of giving course for some specific programming languages. Early bird price should go to the first page?

I'm working currently for a small startup as a developer. My personal opinion would be to find someone who can write and deploy code and can build a relationship with you. Ask for references, live website, repository and so on. But be careful with people who quote a lot of technology without using them. Student or 'real world' experience are good options.

This person would do all the major coding task for you. On top of that if you can create a good relationship, this person would be able to find you other tech people for tasks he/she can't handle and can give you nice advice.

The programming language at this stage is not very important IMO. But focusing on a popular programming language with a big community is something to have. Imagine if you need to recruit 2 others coders to do the job. Or if you main developers can't work for you anymore.

Something which may help for recruting someone is to write a draft of your needs (setting-up servers, level of front-end/backend programming...)
