I think the writer is trying to talk about how this show portraits, in his mind, a distance future yet it is a show about now. One could easily see this show, if created just 10 years ago, a futurist crime show. The author is trying to describe how in 10 years so much has change and how digital everything is and how much computers has taken over our lives
I don't think 64 bits matters yet however Apple knows that people will want this 64bit magical thing forcing their competition to follow suit
I think Apple pulled a good one on Android and other mobile OSes. With Android's ecosystem being so fragmented and Windows is still trying to get a foot hold on the apps market, a push to 64bit will further fragment their ecosystem.
