This is interesting but I would prefer to see some native Swift libraries for Data Science.

Kind of underwhelming in my book. Where is SQL support (promised over a year ago in Google I/O 2010) and what about Java-Python feature parity?

Recent developments in the 'Google Platform' front (new App Engine price structure, API shutdowns, crippled Google Apps Standard offering, etc) severely dented my belief on a "full cloud" future. Perhaps we shouldn't outsource (== depend) too much to cloud vendors.

I used Java until 2002, then used Ruby until 2009, then switched to Javascript (server side). 3 months ago I decided to switch back to Java and I really feel I lost a decade with experiments.

It turns out, I am really a static-typing ...type after all.

With utilities like Spring Roo, frameworks like Jersey (JAX-RS), IDEs like Eclipse and platforms like GAE, Java can be really productive.
