I don't fully understand the "soft-body physics" part. What's that supposed to mean? Looks like a generic UI library, not a really good one.

opacity: 0.5 for disabled elements is a crime.

pointer-events: none on disabled elements and claiming WCAG AA compliance? Ew.

You cannot do that in the hopes of viewers donating $5 here and there.

But you can do that in hopes of youtube sharing a percentage of fluctuating ad revenue? Certain things can get you de-monetized, you can get strike-bombed, falsely accused of copyright infringement via automated systems, etc, and unless you are a very big channel owner, you will receive a minimal droplet of support likely involving no humans in the loop.

There are sustainable creators getting much more revenue by collecting direct subscription money from their patrons while providing exclusive or first-hand content to them which is then re-uploaded to youtube for reaching a wider audience. They can run their own integrated ad-campaings without google deciding what they are advertising or which content they can or cannot produce.

The quality of the macos for sure degraded over time. My first MacOS was OSX Lion and after Windows 7 it was feeling like a sport car. Now I'm even scared of attempting this Tahoe upgrade, and I have to use some beta-toggle hacks to evade their intrusive notification pop-up begging me to update.

My Macbook needs a restart periodically. Somehow my quite limited disk space (500GB) is getting lower and lower and lower to the point where spotlight will stop working. After restart, I magically get 50GB of disk space back, I'm not sure what is wrong with it and I never took the time to investigate, but I guess it's caches and temp files of all kinds. I also HATE the invention of "open all apps and windows back so everything is the same as before restart", no matter if I choose no in the special dialog, it freaking opens the apps and windows which were open prior to restart, which is FRUSTRATING, I have to kill them all as soon as they pop up, pressing CMD+Q repeatedly for a solid minute after EVERY restart – I like my system clean and pristine after I shut it down and up again, but somehow they made it problematic.

Business is pretty simple actually: you begin by finding the market, then you proceed with getting a thing to sell on the market, then you sell you thing at the market. Think about it in simple terms: to start a business of selling vegetables – acquire vegetables, find a marketplace nearby, sit there and sell your vegetables. All businesses really are just increasingly sophisticated versions of this; source something of value, reach the customer, make money.

It's great to hear, yeah I researched this topic a bit further and there are clearly some very determined people who want to bring BAR to more platforms, excited about the progress! Floats will be a big pain in the ass for sure and will cause countless desyncs, same story prevented playing supreme commander FAF on ARM processors, though a lot of attempts have been made

Yeah it's very sad for me as well, I was a big fan of supreme commander and I really wanted to play BAR. They have a special Notice for Mac users, which explain that they don't support Mac because:

1. No support for OpenGL 4.3 by Apple.

2. Dependency on a library not supporting ARM architectures.

The first point is not a big deal, you can emit Vulkan commands from OpenGL via Zink, and then use MoltenVK to translate it all to Metal automatically at runtime. Surely performance will suffer a bit, but it should be playable.

The second one is quite absurd though, ARM processors is not something exclusive to Mac, Windows-on-ARM laptops are becoming increasingly common, ARM market share in the broader PC space is forecast to approach 20-30% in the coming years as Windows-on-ARM software compatibility matures. This prevents a huge number of people from playing the game due to the ancient streflop library, and really this notice should be "Notice for ARM users" not "Notice from Mac users"

UPD:

Actually there is a guy who is trying to invent a direct OpenGL-to-Metal translation layer just to play B.A.R. it seems, and the progress is pretty huge at the moment:

This is such a delusional take it's borderline trolling. Code is an expression tool to precisely describe a process that does useful thing. Typing prompts is not too different from writing some very vague code, which is arguably a waste of time by itself.

I'm so sick of this anthropics marketing stuff... claude is an ultra-success (according to claude judge), “good code”, bragging about creating 8x more bugs and tech-debt. claude writes code that works, yeah, sure anthropic, we saw that claude code leaks, some amazingly "good" code in there

By the way it's also the same way around with "Who is hiring" threads, tried posting a job there and my email just instantly filled with all sorts of letter-slop, hundreds of emails which are infeasible for a single human looking for a job candidate to sort out, some of them are just generated to match the job description, but it's completely unrelated experience listed in the CV, some of them are just straight spam promoting some yet another AI shit. They still keep coming to this day, few months after posting in that thread. It's very hard to look for a job, or look for a candidate nowadays by using the public channels where you just leave your email in the open thanks to the wicked automations some highly disrespected individuals are eager to keep setting up. I maybe received one or two letters written by the real people. Who is hiring and Who wants to be hired seems to be perpetually doomed by AI, good luck to you Ilia.

How it's going with humans to Mars by 2024? Coast-to-Coast Full-Self Driving? 1 Million Robotaxis? 25000$ Model 2? Hyperloop? 2 trillion $ DOGE Cost Cuts?

Elon Musk is like that developer you hired which always promises "this feature will be ready tommorow" and it end's up in the backlog for 6 years. The richest person in the world who understood that the world is not built on trust anymore and all you need is hype.

This comment somohow makes it look like google is a non-profit charity organisation.

Isn't it the corporation which makes super-profits and gmail is just part of the equation?

I highly doubt that anyone would ever riot over loss of access to email, nor that it's some critical piece of infrastructure, there are dozens of other communication methods online today.

When I was a kid, I went as far as to install a key-logger on the computer to get the master password from the parental controls, silently disabling them when I wanted and enabling them again when I'm done so parents would never notice.

It's almost sad this AI age verification bs doesn't even pose too big of a challenge for kid's creativity

Great idea. Next step: internet visas.

Why not go ahead and just ban all bad things?

I mean, Greece can:

Ban poverty, ban hunger, ban bad sleeping habits.

Ban corruption, ban people saying bad things.

Ban pseudonyms in history books too, wouldnt want anyone hiding behind a pen name.

Ban whistleblowing.

Ban dissent, just to be safe.

API token with permissions to delete an entire production database in a file? Cool story, this database was destined to vanish. The system rules never mentioned that it shouldn't run destructive POST requests anyway.

I like how they are trying to find a scapegoat – Cursor failure, Railway's failures etc. Guys, it's YOUR failure, is it so hard to admit?

True ownership is non-existent.

Why? The military power owns things by enforcing their ownership. This is, in fact, the true ownership.

You have to pay taxes to own land so the power which is on your side can prevent another power to re-own it.

If you don't pay taxes to the power which is on your side, why would it allow you to own stuff and provide free protection? Out of good will?

That's how the world works, ownership without the power behind it is non-existent, as well as power without the money behind it is non-existent. When there are enough powers balancing each other, stable systems emerge, and we all can enjoy some few decades of peace and prosperity.

Thoughts are derivative of sensory processing. We have subjective experience and subjective feeling, our symbols are grounded in physical reality. LLM "thoughts" are simulacrum, manipulating symbols according to rules does not imply understanding. One must be quite derealised to think we are predictive machinery or the human brain is just a fuzzier – it is much more than that.
