Oh for sure, but you can do a lot of things without ever touching the advanced coding section. It's definitely worth being cautious though - as you say you can definitely brick your car with it if you're just YOLOing your way through it. It does back up the module configuration prior to writing the update though so you do have a safety net.

Safer settings are exposed with decent labels, but you can also use the advanced mode which is much more low-level, akin to what you described.

Bimmercode lets you do coding (it's very powerful and you can easily mess up your car so you have to be very careful with it), and Bimmerlink lets you read fault codes etc.

The person presenting is also important. I may be interested in the topic but if I don't like the presenter or their delivery then I'm still not going to watch it. Text doesn't have this issue.

You're correct that the dongle only facilitates the connection, but you don't need dealer software. I have an ODB dongle and a £20 (I think) app on my phone which lets me change a _ton_ of settings on my BMW which aren't available in any in-car menus.

Yes this is my use-case for it too - it's great to generate a structure which I will keep but I always end up reworking all the actual content so it sounds like me. It is a great way to get past the 'getting started' hurdle though.

This is a you thing. I had the same pair of Sony wireless headphones for years and I only replaced them because the ear cups started disintegrating. Their replacements (also Sony) have already lasted me a couple of years with no issues. I also have absolutely no problems with Bluetooth either, the headphones are paired with maybe 6 devices across iOS and Linux and they never fail to connect.

I (and I'd wager most other meatsacks here) use HN to engage with real people with real opinions. Not with robots.

yep, my 3 year old gets a very limited amount of screen time and he only watches educational programs (not whatever cartoons his peers watch). There's is no way I want to make it _easier_ for him to watch TV, especially as he has very little interest in it already.
