Interesting, thought it looked pretty cool. Something to keep in mind for future projects. :)

How did you do the reddit quote thing? Custom made or is there a website that formats it for you?
Probably depends on which coast youre in. West coast and California is probably Vietnamese and east coast and new York is Korean.
Create an LLC and elect to file as S-corp status for tax purposes. You pay yourself a fair salary (so that IRS will be content) and the rest can be considered pass through income taxed only at your income bracket.
For example, say you earned 300k last year. A fair salary for a developer might be 70k. You pay income tax and self employment tax on the 70k but only income tax on the remaining 230k.
I am not your lawyer or accountant so take the above advice with caution.
Take a look at System 76: https://www.system76.com/laptops/model/galu1
The specs are very well chosen for most developer users at a very reasonable price. From your requirements, I believe the only thing missing is native VGA support, which I'm sure you can easily fix with a simple adapter.
Post was mostly likely made by someone making spammy and useless sites which was banned from Google Adsense and is now pissed that he has no more income.
How well do the macbooks run Ubuntu? Last time I looked into it, there were still some issues with the 2013 macbook air running the latest Ubuntu 13.10
Matt Cutts browses this site. Maybe he knows the reason why?
I believe Flask actually has the advantage in the ORM since you aren't tied to Django's strictly RDBMS structure and Flask will allow you to easily use NoSQL solutions if that's your thing. Flask with SQLAlchemy is just as powerful as Django's ORM.
Flask does have an admin plugin but it's nowhere near as good, polished, or documented as Django's.
Django does have the advantage of a bigger mind share, users and ecosystems.
Are those two programs made by different people? I thought one was just the paid version of the free one.
Start a site documenting them and don't rely on Wikipedia.
If you're going for a Windows laptop, take a look at the newly released Samsung Book 9 Plus: http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/20/samsung-ativ-book-9-plus-...
Arguably the best looking Windows option today, with a resolution of 3,200 x 1,800. Rumor has it that pricing on the Plus model will start at over $1600+
Someone showed a similar service a few months back: youfm.org But great job on the front end development. The UI is slick.
namecheap.com - absolutely no problems in the 2+ years I've been using them.
How about a system where it's secure even if the user is dumb.
Digital Ocean, hard to beat $5 VPS with SSD drives and backups
That's close to a 90x monthly revenue multiple. You're assuming that you will keep making that amount every month but how are you getting your traffic? If it's from search engines, a Panda update or competitors showing up could reverse that very quickly especially if you put in "zero" hours of work.
Is Yelp not in those countries yet?
Isn't Adhoc Labs in the business of creating side projects to see if they are viable? Or are you talking about side side-projects? :)
looks like they have a data center near Montreal Canada. Those are some insanely low prices for dedicated servers. I'm glad someone finally brought over Europe's low cost model to North America. I will definitely check them out for my next project.
leave it off your resume
can you expand on what you mean by "take a popular site and build a small client for it"? Do you mean just use their API to build a quick demo site or something else? My portfolio is a bit weak and I was looking for good portfolio projects to showcase my talents.
Yup, and his analysis does not take the strength of the team into account (Vegas calls this the spread). It like betting the Miami Heat with Lebron will win a high percentage of games, well of course, everyone can make that bet.
Is there a separate submit page for Ask HN? or do you just prefix your post with that title?
Sounds more like a poorly implemented game mechanic more than cleverness on the players part. They basically let their users set the price then distribute rewards based on that.
Wordpress is really only good if your building a simple blog or info site. It would be very difficult to add in the amount of customization you would need to create a HN clone in Wordpress.
I would advise you look into something like Django or Rails which is a better fit for sites which need custom functionality.
Very good read. Gives me the motivation to keep going. :)
First world problems.
How did you arrive at that price? Their site states 0.02 per 1 GB which times 1000 would be $20 per TB.
EDIT* I guess you meant their $5 VPS allows 1 TB of bandwidth before they start charging you for overages. You would have to startup/shut down when each VPS approach 1TB of usage I guess.
I'm not saying it's wrong, but the fact that only YC companies can post jobs here is the very definition of favoritism. I'm also pretty sure that their posts go straight to the front page without needing any upvotes.
I'm not familiar with VC deals and such but how would something like monthly "stock-like" points work? each member of the team would earn points based on their time commitment for that month (year/week/whatever) and as their commitment or schedule changes, so does their point allocation. For example a cofounder who works fulltime for a year will still have some points/shares even if he leaves. If you recruit someone new then they start at 0 and gain more percents of the company the longer he works there. A persons total percent ownership would then be simply his points divided by the total outstanding number of points. The one downside would be the extra effort required to determine everyone's contributions but this system would allow dynamic allocation of the company ownership over time.
