Congratulations to DoD for hiring new junior dev.

Postgres has very limited features related to FTS, so it is useful only for very simple cases or for very limited budget. Elasticsearch is stable enough(but good devops and devs needed) and has numerous of features. Anyway Elasticsearch is not a "plug and play" solution and requires much work to be done for good search quality. Why I know this all? I'm running ecommerce search startup, based on Elasticsearch as primary storage.

Actually you should avoid splitting software into microservices by default until you really need it. It's easy to catch the moment - you will see that movement of some project part into microservice will help you to close many points and issues.

So: 1) Read classic books about monolith software. 2) Read decent books about microservices approach.

We definitely want to investigate these and the billing issues further. What’s a problem for OpenAI engineers to get web access logs and grep for 4xx/5xx errors?

Why Perl? 3 years ago

However, it requires a lot of discipline and experience

That’s true for any platform - Java or PHP. Perl has less support in modern IDE. Perl 5 to 6 transition failed many times so ecosystem lost many talents.

P.S. I wrote and supported large Perl codebases, no rocket science to manage it, if you do it right.

I think, they need another nore skilled Product Manager. Offer "Free Forever" is a big mistake. Silently closing it - another big mistake. Instead of the first they could offer user count limited version. I.e. 10 users max, $10/month. The same as Atlassian did with Jira. Instead of the second, they could offer 50 or even 70% special discount from paid plan($10/user/month) to move free users to paid plan. Company gets money and users loyalty and no negative.
