I don't know because I'm not a specialist in benchmarks. The article authors are supposedly specialists, so I'd expect them to identify appropriate benchmarks to make statements such as "while this is a good value for games and general purpose use, it fails for local AI as these benchmarks show", for example.
It feels like the people doing the benchmarks are stuck in time. POV-Ray benchmarks but not AI? Most people today, including enthusiasts, don't even know what POV-Ray is.

I'm not a mobile gamer so I find the XBOX S pretty good for the indie game scenario. I own both the X and S in different rooms, and I realized there's hardly any game I play today that requires the X's extra horsepower.
I respectfully disagree, at least for most tasks.
3.1 Pro: while it's coding performance is mediocre, a lot of coding work requires minimum actual thinking. I use it often for light refactoring, boilerplate generation, testcase skeleton generation, code review, language questions ("is there a better way to write this code block?"). I don't have a corporation behind me so costs matter. Considering that I'm a Pro subscriber, it's quite cost effective.
3.5 Flash: excellent model for general (re)search. I use it for everyday tasks with Thinking instead of Flash-Lite. It's a much better version of Google Search for general queries like gaming tips, cooking, day-to-day first aid, tax and investment questions, etc.
Google is clearly aiming for cost-benefit here and considering that it gets bundled with YouTube Plus and Google One at $20/month, it's a killer deal IMHO.
PS: I don't work for Google and don't even like Google very much. But this is a good product.

Shorting is a very different thing from buying a stock and living through a drawdown. You can bleed money fast and if you don't have options protecting your trade, your loss potential is unlimited. Once you pay for the insurance through options, the profits aren't that attractive unless you can see the future and predict exactly when the stocks will go down.
It did not shower people with grants but I met plenty of people who made a killing with post IPO stocks and pay at Microsoft. It also had a great culture with vibrant campus life, lectures, free soda and other things that were uncommon at the time.
Most of the top names had unique, great cultures at some point. Early Microsoft was awesome, as well, I hear, early Apple.
I'm sure they had plenty of time to think about these insights without the LLM, as well as the many other mathematicians who tried to crack it over the years. Wether the LLM was simply an assistant or solved the problem entirely isn't as important as accepting than the LLM was the essential, previously missing piece in the solution.
I told Gemini Pro I woke up after having dreamt that polynomial and asked if it was related to the Jacobian conjecture. It spent some time thinking and referenced this tweet announcement, saying:

The parent's absolutely nonsensical post highlights how polarized AI (as everything else) is today. I can understand someone being opposed to AI on moral, cost-benefit or productivity grounds. But we're seeing a lot of extremist "AI is good for nothing" posts out there nowadays.

The investment makes sense for a company with a ton of products that naturally integrate with AI. Gemini is how I search these days. and finally Google got me to pay a monthly fee to them, especially with YouTube plus included in the price (for now at least).
But Claude Code is the apple II in my analogy. Where's the revolutionary product made with AI coding, or the company that couldn't exist without vibe coding?
Nonetheless, the government isn't giving it away either. If China had a monopoly on the technology, or simply winning in quality, open weight models would never have seen the light of the day.

Great work! I really liked the UI and the overall philosophy behind the project. It would be cool to connect a virtual graphical display to the output ports and have the CPU output something visual just for fun.

Visicalc was released 2 years after the Apple II was released. Visicalc changed the world for the better faster than AI has up to this point.
While I agree with you in principle, I think the parent has a point here: where's the amazing product that couldn't have been done without AI? By now we should have seen some major new invention/company, incredibly fast revolutionary feature rollouts etc but I'm just seeing more of the same.
Interestingly, you could easily run them from the said old consoles! You'd just need a bit of console code to interface (text input/output) with your fully independent LLM subsystem. Imagine Claude for the NES without Internet?

You can apply the same argument to wealthy dense neighborhoods in affluent areas full of designer coffee and organic produce vs dense neighborhoods in poor areas of a city with monthly food poisoning at local restaurants. Vast difference, go check Latin America for examples of terrible dense neighborhoods.
My argument is that not even nice dense neighborhoods are that nice compared to nice suburbia.
It's a matter of the person's life values and I believe the majority wouldn't necessarily pick the nice dense neighborhoods over nice suburbia. Also, I'd pick bad suburbia over bad inner cities.

I grew up in "walkable residential neighborhoods with cafes/restaurants/shops where neighbors interact" outside the US. Thank you, but no thank you. Crowded, nosy judgemental people, noisy and small properties with constant fights with neighbors.

I just saw a video of it. Impressive. Were the enemy ships hand drawn 3D plastered on sprites? Or was there some actual realtime 3D rendered by the CPU? The boss ship I saw looked like realtime 3D.
Yeah, but at least the XBOX sits in a low power mode that does updates and keeps the spot you were in your game saved. It's really transparent. I'm not saying Steam can't do that but it's not in the same league yet.
