I can't imagine you'd have any issue. My jellyfin box has an fx6300 with an even older quadro gpu (600 I think), and it doesn't seem to have any issue running multiple streams at once. I'm honestly not even sure if it's using hardware encoding on the gpu, or just cpu, but in Ubuntu 18.06 it worked out of the box with the open source drivers so I haven't messed with it.

I'd dare say it's already happened on the desktop. I do IT for an elementary school, and pretty much none of the employees use any app other than their web browser. Right now the computer I'm sitting in front of is running Outlook, our ticketing system, WhatsApp, Discord, and Spotify all within Firefox which is the only native app I have open, and likely the only app I'll open all day.

Unfortunately there's an unavoidable stretch of two lane highway with no sidewalk or bike lane between me any my workplace. If I lived somewhere where I could make the trip reasonably safely I absolutely would!

I really wish someone would bring back truly small trucks like the old Rangers, or even something like an el Camino. Having a truck is really nice sometimes, but driving a tank around every day seems just silly.

This makes me crazy. I used to drive a '99 Mazda b2500 (basically a Ford Ranger). I could reach any of the controls without even leaning forward. In a newer f150 that I used to drive for work the reach for the volume knob seems to be about the same distance as the reach to the passenger window crank in my old truck.

I suspect that in the not too distant future (perhaps in my lifetime) there will be companies buying up landfills in order to mine them for recyclable materials.

My gaming desktop right now is actually an old Dell Precision tower with a third gen i7 that I got for $140 off eBay. I swapped out the PSU, upped the ram to 16gb, added an SSD I had laying around, and replaced the Quadro GPU with a 1060. In all it cost me about $350 and comfortably runs every game I own. Power draw isn't too much of a concern since it isn't used too often.

I'd guess he wants to be able to sync bookmarks/passwords/etc across platforms. It's nice being able to find something on my phone and then pull it up later on my desktop using synced bookmarks or Firefox's "send tab to device" functionality.

I will say when I first started using Firefox on mobile it did seem slower, but the ability to use extensions like ublock has always made up for it. I think speed has gotten a bit better lately, but there's still room for improvement there.

Not to mention that if you're in that <$40,000 income bracket, you're almost guaranteed driving a car that has a very high probability of needing a $400 (or worse) repair quite regularly. You also likely live somewhere where you need that car functioning to get to work.

I don't believe you can install the play store itself, but Spotify should work. You would have to manually side load it, or install the yalp store which will manage fetching and updating play store apps for you.

I suspect the bone injuries come from the traction you get on those mats more than perceived safety. In the gravel if you put your arm out to catch a fall, it slips (and you scuff up your palms, learning not to do that next time), whereas on rubber mats it sticks and can end up taking the whole force of your fall.

I actually have Diamond Age downloaded to my ebook reader right now. I'm working through Liu Chixin's Remembrances off the Earth's Past trilogy right now, but I'll have to start it next! I tend to have trouble getting through the first ~100 pages or so of Stephenson's books, but have really enjoyed the ones I've actually read!

Two things I look for when replacing a phone: 1. Lineage OS support. (So you actually get security updates) 2. A decent repairability score on iFixit. (So you don't end up with a brick when your battery dies in a few years.)

Right now I'm on a OnePlus 2. It will be 4 years old this summer and doesn't seem to have any issues with the newest Android (in the form of Lineage OS), or any apps I use!

The college I went to had a mix of whiteboards and chalkboards. Even as a student I preferred the rooms with chalkboards. It seemed like the light on dark contrast and no glare made them easier to see.

I also find disposable markers to be a bit of an environmental horror. In the grand scheme of things maybe it's not that much waste, but replacing something like chalk with a thick plastic non-recycleable marker for little if any gain is disturbing.
