Yep, simple blur seems most classy, thanks for mentioning that as it wasn't directly implied by "virtual background". To be clear, Google Meet does not support a simple blur on Firefox. (I could use a virtual camera, but as I mentioned in another comment.. I don't care enough)

Not a strawman (I don't think? not sure what you meant by this..), just very curious. You have a setup that is in between useless when grid is down, and fully self-sufficient. Seems possibly very practical to me, but I haven't heard of it before.

Would you spell it out for us? What exactly happens when the grid fails at your site? Overnight, obviously you have no power. Then "the sun rises" but surely if there's any load, it must get above a certain point in the sky before it can run your house and charge your EVs, especially in the winter. And same thing in the afternoon, there must be a point where the sun is shining but too low in the sky and the load cannot be sustained- what exactly happens then?

I didn't say in advance. After the fact is likely best, but in a seamless flow that doesn't require using Finder, the terminal, or any other tool. Indeed Gnome solves after the fact, allowing you to just accept the default generated filename, or specify your own, with zero friction.

As others in the thread mention, once you've taken the screenshot, it helpfully dumps you in "the editor" (is this Preview.app? I don't know because it doesn't have a title bar..). In the editor, I am give then option to do a bunch of things, but no option to rename the screenshot. This is disappointing. Hence I was hoping somebody here could fill me in on the trick that will make me happy..

Yep, but they're easily available from the cafeteria right when the blizzard hits. Right when other sledding equipment is likely to be sold out from stores (stores that don't sell commercial-grade trays, at any price..). Plastic sleds (especially the flexible rectangles with the single handle) are cheap in bulk - maybe stockpiling them on behalf of the would-be tray borrowers, could help?

Would you say more about Deming? I am 2/3 the way through The New Economics based on recommendations on HN. I love the boldness of some of his ideas. But also, some of them are.. not good ideas. Like, if you were to try to follow his prescription wholesale - it would not work out well. I recognize that it's primary[-ish] source in dialogue with Drucker school (which also has some good in the bad! even though Deming hates on it), so it can be valuable as a radical idea even if not practical. But where can I read "Deming, the good parts"?

I think parent’s point is worth reminding us of, because in our consumer-driven economy, there’s no economic incentive to teach people that reducing their consumption may be a reasonable and “happier” alternative to earning more income.
