You took "reflective" too literally. I just meant more reflective to IR than dark green paint that most military stuff gets painted with. I never meant a mirror surface. Just the IR equivalent of white paint.

I can't help thinking that in the anti-mortar role, there are very simple countermeasures that would severely reduce the laser's effectiveness.

Reflective paint, ablative coatings, internal vacuum layer, heat insulation, thermally insensitive explosive and detonators, etc.

As the smaller party in a coalition, they got blamed for every unpopular decision and got no credit for anything popular.

I read this story a few months ago, it had a few more details then.

They tried giving them iron cookware, but they didn't like the weight. They then tried putting a random piece of iron in with their cooking, but not many kept up with doing it. That's where the idea to shape the iron like a lucky fish came from, and it seems to be working.

That's just nature making the best it can of a historical accident.

If you were designing the eye from scratch, you'd have the nerves coming out the back like in squid. Then if you wanted something that concentrates the red and green wavelengths, you could put something else in front of the light sensing cells.

You'd end up exactly where you are now, except you'd not have a huge blind spot, and wouldn't have to spend as much brain power compensating for it.

Clock speed does not equal performance.

For instance, the Z80's fastest instructions took four cycles, where the 6502's fastest instructions took two cycles.

The Z80's slowest instructions took 23 cycles, and the 6502's slowest took seven cycles.

And even that comparison is over simplified.

Modern missiles cannot be dodged. It's mostly just a way to show off the plane's agility. It could just barely be useful for shooting at a target behind you, but you sacrifice a lot of energy moving your aircraft like that.

One difference between Motorola and Intel, is Motorola was less concerned with breaking backwards compatibility.

If the 68k family had continued to evolve past the 1994s 68060, I'm sure they could have just dropped backwards compatibility to some of the more complex addressing modes, or just devoted less silicon to them, and making what remains faster. Kinda like happened with the ColdFire version of the 68k family.

You could also go beyond that by changing the image 50/60 times a second, which would then blur together. Enabling you to display colours that aren't even in the ST's palette.

I thought it might be something like that. I've never been able to do them. I just find them frustrating and quit.

I do play various puzzle games, but I'm not a huge fan of this particular type. For me personally, it would put me off your game, especially if the failure to complete the puzzle stopped me progressing.

I can't speak for other people. I may just be weird.
