Hi! I'm Bruno, a geeky tinkerer by choice. I've been working in tech for many years to know a thing or two about software development. Come see my blog at http://geekymartian.blog
“I think 2026 is going to be the year that A.I. starts to dramatically change the way that we work,” he said on a call with investors in January. “We’re starting to see projects that used to require big teams now be accomplished by a single very talented person.” okay..
Thanks for taking a look! Indeed I'm super interested in the long tail effects of this. I'll keep an eye on this first crop of repos over time.
Looked for some data around ShowHN's side project avalanche.
my man
1) welp, I hope this is not my healthcare provider. 2) Do you realize the cost fallacy just extends one level deeper, since those pennies on tokens soon will become hundreds your nurses become cheaper again? 3) "Our AI", come on. What exactly are you using? this is a technical forum.
You can't compare an LLM output with a self driven car. That's the flaw of using the term AI for everything, it brings two completely different technologies to an artificial level ground.
I scrolled too far to find this comment. That was hard to read, had ChatGPT "grammar" all over and AI images with frowny customers to top it off
that was my exact thought. how fitting
I'm wary of these "I don't use an IDE anymore, just chat with claude-code".
It's like playing a game of blindfold navigation and you need to direct somebody to get somewhere by shouting commands "go left, no, no go right, my right".
I do use claude-code, but you can't ditch the code editor because you got to tweak things here and there. It gets very time consuming if you rely on claude for small stuff also. Merely the roundtrip to apply some small changes through Claude can take longer than just go and edit the file.
ADHD coding, brute forcing product generation until you get it right? Just freaking write the code that you can expand and modify in the future instead of increasing your carbon footprint.
A golf swing measurement app using 3 sensors and an esp board. Just started practicing golf and made sense to understand how the swing works. Claude AI is helping me with some of the coding, fun stuff.
Exactly, fear mongering , click baiting, etc. My car even has a timer to do that already normally, because it's the right thing to do. gee
You should check out Klaxon: https://github.com/themarshallproject/klaxon That way you can setup all the sites you want to keep an eye on.
The viewer of the infographic is terrible, post a large png please.
This is cute, but I will continue using peerflix : https://github.com/mafintosh/peerflix . Loads way faster and is not hosted/tracked (besides the obvious p2p interaction). And I don't have to see ads.
Uruguayan here.
About the populist act: the presidential palace itself was not used as a homeless shelter, just the barbecue (has a roof) (that is kind of "luxurious" for the poor standards of living down here)
If you're planning to move, please note that we have a state that charges you 23% of taxes on ALL products and services, plus a 20% to 35% of taxes over your earnings. And what you get for free if you're middle class? nothing, you just pay for lower class benefits. Also real state is crazy, properties on the nicest neighborhoods (nice for the standards here obviously) cost more than an apartment in Manhattan.
Everything has a ton of taxes because upper class must support lower class. The problem with that wonderful idea is that lower class gets now a lot of benefits for free, and they don't want to work more to get out of lower class and start paying to help other lower class citizens obviously.
Since Mujica is the president more and more stuff is getting taxes to help his social help strategies, making worker class people flee the country.
I won't be worried about working and paying taxes if some of that is reflected around in the country, but all the money goes to pay state employees or health care to unemployed people (health care system which is about to collapse) or the state retirement system (since there's lower and lower workforce this one will collapse in a few years too). If you want to buy anything imported, you got a huge tax over that too. For example cars have 100% of taxes, if you buy a car for 10k in other places here it costs 20.
Public spaces are dirty as hell, and the level of security is very low (you can get mugged because somebody wants your sneakers).
Mujica may have good ideas, but the execution is very poor and the outcome is terrible. He is the kind of guy who fixes the world chatting on a bar, not a president.
my 2 cents
at least they are doing something right?
and without customers?
Right out of the box, no I can't. Downloading an android app to do some sort of airplay I could probably do it. My comment was just to let ppl know that for the same 35 bucks you probably could have been doing the same thing since last year. The SDK part is interesting in the other hand, and I will get a Chromecast to see how that works.
As I said, I agree with your comment that the software is the good part (or magic as you call it). The magic word comment was about the TC writer expression about the hardware of the device, which is not that magic in my opinion.
Agree about the software, but don't show the device as "magic" please.
1) got my first android tv around 2012 and that was the second version of mk802, early models were available before.
2) grab a remote is better than grab a laptop and fire an application, plus you need to power it on, etc. but if you prefer that it's ok. Netflix and pandora apps are available in Android, no need to use a web browser.
3) " but based on all the reviews, it's capable of playing 1080p video no sweat" well, is not what the review says:
"If you’re using the Chromecast extension for Chrome on your laptop to project an otherwise incompatible video site (like Hulu or HBOGO), however, video quality can dump quite a bit depending on your setup. It’s using your laptop as a middle man to encode the video signal and broadcast it to the Chromecast, whereas the aforementioned compatible sites just send video straight to the dongle, mostly removing your laptop from the mix. When casting video tabs on a 2012 MacBook Air running on an 802.11n network, the framerate was noticeably lower and there were occasional audio syncing issues."
You even need an additional transcoder! the mini pcs can decode MKVs by themselves (and lots of formats more)
4) network resources, yes they can: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.plattner.ci...
Look, I got an apple TV and one of those "dongles" connected to my TV, and trust me, when I need to play an MKV is way more easier to use a remote to access the File NAS than firing up Beamer app (http://beamer-app.com/) from my mac to watch a movie.
Chromecast requires extra hardware to complete almost anything, so yes, I think it's less capable than the mini pcs at 36 usd that ship free.
Sorry, I'm going to be "that guy"
OK, so it does exactly what the chinese players are doing since 2011?
Examples (with beefy hardware and way more capabilities): http://dx.com/p/android-4-1-mini-google-tv-player-w-512mb-ra...
http://dx.com/p/reko-mk802-android-4-0-mini-pc-w-wi-fi-hdmi-...
They can login into pandora, netflix without extra hardware (yeah, only 36 bucks and youre done!) and you don't need to bother using another device to start playing stuff.
Plus, you can play your own files, access your network resources...
OH, HYPE
Nice lib, you may take some ideas from pismo: https://github.com/peterc/pismo , more metadata oriented but returns a nokogiri doc as well.
First, who reads msn.com ? Second, in 2010 starbucks in NY required you to have a starbucks card to access wifi. That didn't work well and they gave wifi free again, so stay cool-- they know what is good for their business.
Coming from OSX, how do you handle the cmd + * to ctrl + * switch? After years of cmd key combinations I always find hard to switch to ctrl key combinations. The app switching with alt instead of cmd kills me too.
wait, they have somebody doing only SQL ?
I don't see any location specification. And today that doesn't matter very much due to telecommuting.
