I blew up my Ubuntu install and switched back to Debian. I haven't missed Ubuntu at all.
What are the biggest drawbacks? I know you said you don't miss Ubuntu at all, but is there anything which is causing you pain because it works differently or is just missing?
How does it compare to using Ubuntu with Ansible? Do you ever miss being on mainline stable Ubuntu/Debian when using NixOS?

I consider it sloppy to accept that a process will crash and become unresponsive as a normal fact of life, and that subsequently they have to be automatically restarted. A process should stay put at what it was designed to do. Reasons for the crash/unresponsiveness should be investigated (memory leaks, race conditions etc) and not swept under a carpet with an automatic restart.
In the end, the system I put in place had 97% fewer processes (from 629 to 20) while providing all the same capabilities.

They lost me at "encrypted downloader". The WhatsApp video attachment format allows for...a downloader? I strongly doubt that.
Perhaps what they should have written is that they cannot decrypt the video and thus check for an exploit within it (it's commonly called payload, because it doesn't have to be a downloader...).
I see from other comments here that I am not the only one doubting the report wording at the very least.
