I also have a son who's a gamer. it's a tighter community Than what you mentioned (Music or Religion) and way more exposure. Its not uncommon for him to spend 30+ hrs a week in his "community"

There is good logic here, but one thing that is less than stellar is that it's based off of only 3 months of data. Its hard to tell if that is enough time for large projects to have started

Just hang out for a few weeks, then bring any questions you have up.

I see the divide in my friends groups. There are no easy answers.

I think for me, one insight is that of my friends making over $100,000 lack the real awareness of what it means for my friends who make just enough to pay rent and food, while struggling to provide the life they want for their kids.

We ( I have been guilty of it) sometimes reduce the conversation to some version of "just re-tool" as if they are 10 weeks away from a different life. There are so many steps that I used to take for granted. Mindset is one of them. Different priorities is another major issue. I have a friend that could have worked on a cutting edge robotics team that stayed home and took a help desk job so he could live with his mom that is 88 years old and struggles to walk.

The hopelessness of many hard working and smart people is not very appreciated. They are not dumb or lacking discipline or some variation of that.

There is a real economic issue. Take school teachers or nurses (my wife's a nurse) that truly aren't paid adequately for their contribution.

is there fault they chose wrong at 18? That just seems too simple of an answer to me.

Pretty much the rest of the country has awful public schools. Every large city has a few good ones and a number of less than wonderful ones.

I think a meaningful separation point might be the cost of living and more specifically the taxes raised from housing. If you have houses with an average price of $1M and houses with an average price of $300k, in the latter a public school system would simply have less to work with.

It doesn't have to be a conspiracy for Large corporations to have self interest and to highlight stories that benefit them and minimize/ignore things that would negatively effect them.

I dont think many employee's have this mindset. This mindset would contribute to the issue and would be one that I would have not considered...so I thank you for your transparency.

I wish that I had hiked the Appalachians mountains. its a 7 month journey one of my friends did it in his 20's. I'm in my 40's and in good shape, but im not sure I could do that one anymore.

There is another story I have heard many times about how the Vietnam government paid local people to kill rats. To prove they killed a rat, the locals had to cut its tail off and bring it in to collect payment.

The locals decided it was getting harder and harder to find rats to get paid to capture. They started to cut the tails off and release the rats back into the sewers so that they could procreate.

So the government's attempt to kill all rats ended in rats being bred and eventually an increase in rat population.

Work opportunities was the real one, but I wanted to take my young family (at the time my kids were 3,7,8) to experience a different culture. For example to feed sharks and go see a live volcano.

It’s okay for it Not to add up. It’s a unique experience that is hard to translate for people that have not lived a day in the life.

For example, there is a 30,000 member town that has high end hotels that do not have functional generators. You could Pay $600 a night and not have air conditioning.

The alternative is being proactive about a backup system.

Fiji has successfully done it. Their infrastructure is great. In Fiji, they have a similar 3rd world infrastructure for electricity. When it goes out, they have fully functional backup generators and a strong team of support. While blocks are down and you wouldn’t even know it as a consumer.

As Americans and mostly Aussie expats, the electrical challenge translated to not being able to shop for more than 1-3 days of food, but that was easy to adjust to once it was understood.

But for example, the hospitals when they didn’t know how to treat something— they would just amputate. I’m guess that would be a surprise to most people.

They had ni blood bank. They have one now, but I would get calls to come down to the hospital and “save a life” by giving blood right this minute.

When forklifts at the port would break, they would just take the week off and ship new ones in.

Which made the port constantly run behind. We had our own backup forklifts that we would keep on hand to make sure that our international contracts were honored.

It’s a beautiful place and the people are wonderful, but there is many challenges when planning a life there that many would take for granted

Obviously, we only have a small part of your story. It looks like You took on too much. Lots of people do that. That's part of how you grow, but recognizing it is the main point.

Make task lists of the big picture (not just "To Do Lists") , so you can start to chart what is really being accomplished. Pretend you are explaining it to a a 10 year old.

I moved to the South Pacific and took over a complexed chemical engineering situation that was very hard to make progress on. I started to make it make sense "to a 10 year old" and then my sense of accomplishment really grew.

" Getting Government Permits to get small samples. Should take 90 days. We are on day 160. "

You begin to realize all the action that you are doing...even if it hasn't fully translated to acomplished tasks. That really helps.

Also, block your time and unplug. Like tackle one problem from 9am-11:30am then take an hour long walk in the park.

That will also help.

My best friend is a chemical engineer. He's studied 2 or 3 magnitudes harder than me, but the last 20 years didn't favor Chemical Engineers as much as software engineers. He's done well or plenty good, but to reduce the question of economics to a sense of personal responsibility as if those who are not financially stable -- deserve it, because they are lazy or not aware -- is a gross understatement and exactly why there is a such division in this country.

I think all those answering should have to disclose if they are a parent or not.

That could be one reason.

Usually it's used to improve the annual inflation rate. If that's true then you can comment in Dec and Jan if Inflation rates go up again.
