It's a nice image, but I find it's easy to spot IA generated images when trying to make images of very specific existing hardware. Here you can see all the cars are generic with 50's design look, none are models that existed. Try to ask an IA to draw you a Boeing 747-400 for example, see what I mean. Btw, Have you noticed all the Youtube vids thumbnails made by IA now ? Easy to spot.

Dunno if true, but resonance frequency is the reason German military always avoided making goose step military marches across bridges. I suppose it would depends on the bridge anyway... But would have been fun to watch.

Words and alphabet are common heritage of mankind, like language

"Ah yes, they appeared out of thin air and no one had to create them or fight to keep them (Haben Sie bemerkt, dass wir Englisch und nicht Deutsch sprechen?)."

Hu ?! I think you have a misconception of what creating something is :D Words and letters are human common heritage, it’s so old that no one knows who to credit for their creation :D There is a reason why copyright for original creation last 70 years, then fall into public domain : https://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-duration.html Although details changes countries to countries… Making an original creation is putting the letters and words together, in original and unique form, like for example poets or writers do... see ? Say for example you're a rockstar, and a orange haired politician uses your best songs for his meetings without asking kindly, would you like it ?... (Et oui, je sais que l’on écrit en anglais, et ça n'a aucun rapport…)

only to find someone used it without your consent

"My consent? What are you talking about? Do you think I own slaves? No, I do not. I think slavery is abhorrent. I guess you support slavery though, and like to control other people even when they are in their own homes. So we will disagree. You support slavery. I do not."

What ? WTF slaves and slavery as to do with creation and having a say on your original creation ?! Anyway yes… I support slavery, matter of fact I got 20 slaves very cheap at the market yesterday, have to train them to post on HN. You obviously have no idea what copyright is. Too bad, your posts are very creative and original. You own them (true), you should use more of that talent to write longer funny things… Cheers.

Completely irrelevant . Words and alphabet are common heritage of mankind, like language. They are one way humans communicate, it can’t be « owned ». Your question is like asking « do you have permission for the air you breathe ? », but doesn’t answer mine. Did you ever created something, a creation of your own coming of your own mind, only to find someone used it without your consent ?

How to Polish CSS? 4 years ago

I starred at the tittle for 20sec, with my foggy mind trying to understand why translate CSS in Polish... must sleep.

It's not about France or Argentina. It's about the PSG, a club owned by Qatar (buye... ahem... host of the world cup), where both Messi and Mbappé plays.

How surprising... Developing a specific supersonic jet engine for this kind of plane would not be cost effective anyway, the fleet would be too small to worth the investment. Even starting from a military jet engine, the way they are run and maintained is very different from civilian jet engines.

Still there are not much other routes you can go supersonic in one flight but trans-atlantic, which Concorde could do. Trans-Pacific which could have been the big money making route, like LAX to Tokyo, you need to be able to do 4737 nm... which makes the 4250 nm just short to make it. They would face the same problem the Boeing 2707 team had (or even Lockheed with the L-2000 project), no matter how they tried, too short range for trans-pacific in one Hop. So they would have had to make a stop to Hawaï, but then what's the point if you can take first class in a B777 and make the journey shorter in one subsonic flight. All other routes would be over land, and there again you can't go supersonic (for time being).

So they went from scaled down Concorde configuration :

https://www.airway.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Boom_Ov...

to a very scaled down Boeing 2707-300 configuration :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_2707

(that tiny fin tho...). While reducing cruise speed to 1.7 mach. I see no visible changes to deal with the sonic booms problem. So operation would be like Concorde I suppose, subsonic (or hi-subsonic) over land and Supersonic over ocean only. Unless the super-rich manage the regulation to change.

EDIT : ah yes :) "2x FASTER OVER WATER" and "20% FASTER OVER LAND"...

Also : Maybe good to remember that 18 airlines had once placed orders for Concorde, with only the 2 national carriers flying it in service eventually. And that The Boeing 2707 was ordered by 27 airlines before the program being canceled…

I've seen news of churches (Catholic, as most Churches are in France) been set on fire maybe 2 or 3 times in the news here in France, that was a while ago... Not seen any news like that recently. Are there any sources about the true numbers of these arson fires ?

I had the same conversation with someone living in the US at the time of the Notre-Dame fire, I couldn't come with more than 2 or 3 occurrences reported in the French press naming specifics cases with places names and all, while he, in the US would provide me with dozen of press reports of "Churches are burnings by numbers in France !" type of titles ... Many from a very specific side of the political spectrum.

- The slow motion pass of the Mustang in Empire Of The Sun, that is for planes nuts like me ...

and

- the ending scene of Le Train (1973) with Romy Schneider.

But so many movies scenes I like... That's just the ones that come to mind at the moment.

As for Casablanca, shame on me, I've never seen it. Just some small parts, and each times it looked so cliché that I had always delayed when I would watch it. Only in Hollywood could one have the idea of a French Prefet de Police (Louis Renault character, well named) always wearing a uniform, wearing a ridiculous kepi (Prefets have caps, not kepis) tilted on the side, with a small moustache and a eyebrow higher than the other. I mean, the scene mentioned may be beautiful (again I've never seen it) but that character is sooo much the anglo-saxon cliché of the "untrusthy Frenchman" ... almost a cartoon character.

Anyways, have to take time to watch Casablanca, and die less dumb.

Yes ! :) shamelessly quoting myself : "My favorite theory about Space and time is the one from Don Hoffman. To summarize, space and time are parts of our interface to interact with other conscious agents , just like our senses of smell, vision, sound. But it is just that, an interface, created by millions years of evolution, and does not shows the true nature of reality, which could be completely incomprehensible to us. Like electricity is incomprehensible to a cat, evolution, which is very power thrifty, provided cats just enough effectives ways to survive and reproduce the way cats do. Same for us. this is very summarized, his ideas goes much farther, for him the base of true reality could be consciousness : https://youtu.be/oadgHhdgRkI and https://youtu.be/ds-7sMfJDUw "

Well, evolution happening because of time is again how we "understand" it because we have no other ways to. He doesn't say he has the answer to the true nature of time and space, he is a searcher. Check the vids, it is much better explained than I can do :)

My brother managed to spend 2000 Fr in a month, connecting at night. As you said big "household drama" when parents discovered the bill... But, I think he got his first date with Minitel help :D

The first ever Apple laptop with wireless connection was in fact done in collaboration with France Telecom, and was supposed to work with the Bi-Bop service, Very few were made (around 650) and sold, they were version of the PowerBook 180 with an added connection module and antenna (CT2 norm) in place of the internal floppy drive, and called PowerBop. It lasted a very short time before the Bi-Bop thing was abandoned. The remaining "PowerBop"s were sold at lower prices with the floppy drive reinstalled, but still having a weird notch in the case for the CT2 module... They are very sought after by collectors, as very rare . Got one from a Gentleman living near La Défense (Paris big business center) at the time, one of the few places where some Bi-Bop antenna were installed. Told me the thing worked, sure slow... he would sit under the antenna and check mails, and would feel like living in 2000s , but it was 1994... https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerBop

Being thinking about the question of time and death for some time :p If ever consciousness still exist after death (that is termination of physical body functions), then it would be out of our material dimension, thus out of time. So there is no "life after death", because there can be no "after" when out of this dimension. It could be like consciousness being "disconnected" from the time conveyor belt. Need another beer...
