Probably, but I've read Gruber's piece twice and I couldn't help but feel as if the talk was held by a bunch of young geeks coming from a Kickstarter project.

Maybe that's an Apple's new approach at PR but it sounds like they tried to downplay the impact of bad management that ultimately led to a failure that must have cost them millions.

This is a welcome addition. I expected JSON to become a first class citizens in REDISland for quite some time. In fact, REDIS has always been my goto store for JSON data. In 2013 I created a microservice[0] for accessing JSON data stored in native REDIS lists[1] via HTTP(S).

I think Twitter is in a different position because Yahoo! has never build a bi-directional connection between producers and consumers. Obviously, that's not limited to media and ads companies. Any kind of industry is investing in PR.

I believe Twitter could succeed as a PR company but will probably fail as a tech company.

To my knowledge, Yahoo! has always been led by some tech geek from the Valley, too.

Twitter should be led by someone who is strong in PR. PR is where Twitter has excelled most. I believe neither Jack Dorsey nor Dick Costolo are even known outside of the tech industry, how can they manage a PR product if people barely knows them? Even Scooble would be a better fit than Jack Dorsey. If I were Twitter I'd put in charge some well known public figure with connections in the media and movies industries.

I have an account that is only for private repos and I don't want that account to appear on search engines for my real name.

I also have a public account that I use for contributing to public projects so it could also help to avoid duplicate accounts in search results.

All accounts should be searchable for username/real name with GitHub's search anyway.

GitHub pretty please, give us an option to hide our profile from search engines just like Facebook do.

I can't believe that's [1] the best low-light picture they could find for their flagship mobile OS preview page. It doesn't even add anything to the story:

   Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location. Then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes.

I believe the Internet Archive is much less clear in this regard than public search engines. IA doesn't even have a clear takedown policy and no webmaster tools in place to give owners control on the archived content. Their crowler does obey to robots.txt rules but if you want content to be removed permanently you have to ask politely by email and in my experience they simply block the site urls from being searched but they don't make clear at all if content was actually removed from their servers.

The HDR effect on those images is gross. Also, the white balance looks way off (blueish) to my eyes. I'd say that the overall image quality is not very good with reflections and poor resolution that severely limit the view of details. Such a pity given the value of the assets on display and the incredible opportunity of accessing them with this tool.

Cloudfuse [1] allows you to mount remote OpenStack Storage. You'll need to tweak with the ~/.cloudfuse config file. I haven't tested it though.

Seems to be based on OpenStack [1] Storage [2]. That means any client that supports OpenStack (and Rackspace Cloud Files [3], for that matter) like Cyberduck [4] and a lot more should already be compatible with hubiC.

I double that. It's slow, clunky and unnecessarily heavy. That's why most of my contacts have already switched to other platforms. Talk for Android 4, that added support for multiple accounts, was just good enough.

the banking system of the eurozone (continental europe) is very conservative and not keen on risk. there's nothing that resemble venture capitalism in the old continent (with the notable exception of the UK which is a member of the Commonwealth). I think that the european system is more secure for private wealth (I assumed that having seen what happened to some banks in the US in 2008) but it's showing its weakness these days because it's putting entire countries on their knees.

antirez is not new to this. he created one of the first Digg/Reddit inspired news site in Italy back in 2005 or 2006. I beleive that was originally built in PHP/MySql and recently ported to Redis as the main database. The entire project was aquired by one of the largest italian internet companies around 2006 or 2007 and it's now hosted at http://oknotizie.virgilio.com

indeed, but I couldn't find a way to make the sliders work without touching the mouse. maybe there are some keyboard shortcuts that I couldn't find. also I believe you should be able to tab over the page to reach any input element, for consistency.

have I been missing something or this brakes every accessibility rules? how can I "slide" without a mouse? It seems I can't even tab to the sliding enabled elements.

I believe that very little of the MS/Skype deal is about the technology behind Skype. With 8.5 billions Microsoft could have developed the same technology or even a better technology, and it's very likely that they will completely change it in the future to better integrate Skype with their other products. The real value of Skype is in its user base and the significant number of companies that use Skype as a valuable business resource. That is potentially a much more profitable user base than that of Live Messenger and the two products together now represent a large majority in the entire instant messaging marketplace.
