The issue was solved by having a rich and Turing complete language. I am not huge on adding language features. This seems like userland stuff.

A physical business can put up a closed sign. That closed sign has 24/7 uptime. (Sans vandalism, natural disasters)
I guess for a website you could do similar by flicking cloudflare over to an IP serving a were closed.
But you won't be competitive and you will lose customers!
Oh my!
Nice. Of course you could have ended with zero too!
Yes. You weren't wrong. You need to first guess in order to not guess :)
Feasible in an AI world!
Logs, tests, debugging, ask questions, build a mental model, test that mental model. The more experience I get the less I guess.
Yes for holiday planning. At work we are a massive confluence/rovo user so that is my go to with very occasional search engine use.
Our projects heavily use platform tools so I am looking there rather than Googling.
500ms means a slow connection, high latency or significant bloat.
Optimising the page and using a CDN can help alot.
It is a shame HTML doesn't have rel="swap" in links to "swap" in a new page.
Yes if you click a regular link in a modern browser on a noJS or lowJS reasonable size page it is darn fast.
And the predictability is a boon. Open in new tab, back button etc.
Pre-trump: Why does China need US debt? They can be paid US $ for stuff then buy US assets like stocks instead? Then they get rich without worrying if they get paid. (Assuming the US doesn't break down basic corporate norms and confiscate assets)
Japanese websites have a great aversion to even 2005 level Web homogeneity, let alone the modern tailstraps.
"Rural Japan" checks notes. Pop 1.7M
I have to do a bragsheet now anyway and yeah like gritting teeth. It is documenting your job basically!
Same in 2001. Took 8 months to get my first job. I started the hunt after graduation to avoid job interviews interfering with study (an 1 hr interview would be a 1 day affair with commuting).
Had I got a job before I graduated that company may well have gone bust or laid people off anyway.
Had some bad interviews including being beaten by a other candidate on a job writing access databases for a 1 person business, and a job where they said they interview girls to see what they look like (not a girl but was disgusted... I carried on the process anyway because need $)
Cross my mind when government tweets were moving entire indices. That is a Midas touch.
My memory had held back my career I am sure. I can't regurgitate the minute details of impact I did even 12 months ago, just broad strokes... so I prep as best I can but it probably sounds like I am lying. Now with AI and everyone is suspicious it is worse. Got downleveled to 4yoe level yoe from where I am 20yoe but I needed a job so.
This has nothing to do with AI. They lied in an interview like you could have done in 1980. You can prepare with AI and lie and you can prepare with AI and not lie. I have done the latter.
Yes maybe it is more like a pint of weak beer per day by modern alcohol standards. Not great for you but maybe a good source of clean water.
A million investment doesn't sound regular. Basically if you raise a mill for 33% you value yourself at $2m. That is without PMF or revenue!
This seems like pulling a fast one on VCs if you then pivot to bootstrapping a nice family business. That ain't why they threw $1m at your PowerPoint.
In "dragons den" style traditional business they'd offer you $50k for 50% at that stage. Maybe.
Yes. Rather than compare to paper, compare to yesterday's HDDs. Do we need more HDDs today than then?
That is harder. I think HN litigated this pretty hard in another thread, but delineating paid vs non-paid is not always clear.
Interesting. Being good at their job can be your downfall in the corp world! He'd have been better as a private equity tycoon who would have had proper control.
