It was so painful to read that I had to give up, but from experience this isn't particularly rare; these dudes are typically so busy that they're hammering out missives like this as quickly as possible, no time to proof read or grammar check. Speed of response and communicating the core concepts is paramount.

Facebook Rooms 12 years ago

Like the roaring successes of Home, Paper, and whatever that Snapchat clone thing was...?

(except for the bugs they've been having the past week which don't allow us to create new columns or deploy)

thanks for reminding me why i'll never outsource my app's primary datastore. 'tis a bridge too far.

The café that has the A/C pushed to arctic temperatures when you're in shorts and sandals in the summer. The café that is freezing cold in the middle of winter.

This is done very much on purpose to subtly (passive-aggressively?) discourage people from camping out and using their coffee shops as offices.

Thank you. Some (most?) North Americans seem to be culturally incapable of looking further than their country's borders to see how other nations deal with the same problem... Prohibitionists are usually dumbstruck when i raise the Portugal example, as if i must be just flat-out lying about a country that actually tried something different, and saw positive results.

How do you define what the "return" is? Perhaps it's not an immediate causal relationship, but a much more complicated, interrelated set of returns -- like a more cohesive, inclusive, better functioning society.

Paying more for welfare to others might pay off in being able to walk the streets at night without being mugged, for example.

80%...! Very impressive. What's the cycle count on your battery? My mbp is of a similar vintage, but after 900 or so cycles, the battery is down to 1700mah at "full". But w/ mavericks that's still about 2.5 hrs of runtime (1.75 hrs on Lion).

"Virality" is not something anyone has figured out how to bottle up and reproduce (and if they have, they're not sharing).

The music industry analogy would be to say "just make all your songs into hit records, that's how you get listeners".

I should observe that daleharvey is being very modest by the casual mention of PouchDB, which I think is actually one of the coolest things the Couch ecosystem has going for it right now. :)

I think Zuckerberg was especially naive in this regard; I suspect he truly thought FB could successfully execute the "totally fair and open platform" strategy.

Reality did not agree.

Diet and exercise/lifestyle go a long way, but individual variation is still large -- perfect example: my wife and i have identical diets and eating habits, and my vitals are all "normal" -- yet she is b12 and vitamin D deficient, because her lower intestine doesn't absorb those into her body as effectively as mine does.
