I don't know what kind of an egregious organization the WHO is. First they let millions of people consume sugar alternatives for years, if not decades. Then they release a report saying those alternatives may lead to premature deaths. At this point, I feel like saying, F** it. I'm just gonna consume whatever the f** I feel like without ever reading about or listening to anything in the news.

Lower ranked US universities will grant admission to anyone who can afford their fees. Majority of the people coming to the US are from tier 3/4 colleges in their home country. There are few states in this particular country that have consultancies submitting thousands of student applications. Everything is taken care of - from the application form filling to preparing SOPs and letters of recommendation. Always a good idea to understand the ground reality before jumping to conclusions.

I wonder if this has any effect on the deposit sweeping programs run by firms like robinhood, betterment and wealthfront. They promise 4%+ yields with freedom to take out your cash any time. A quick look at their partner program banks suggests they more or less transfer the deposits to the same set of banks.

You don't need to "guess" how much to pay someone. The market dictates that. HR has pay bands. Raises are always in a narrow band. I don't know what kind of disputes you're talking about. If you ask any manager - describe your responsibilities succinctly, they will most inevitably fail to do so.

Run teams by being hands on. Just don't sit in endless meetings and help "manage" people's careers. It's all a bunch of bs.

Management is just a way to coast. I don't understand why we need to "manage" grown up adults. What we need are team leads who code and architect. Then give them the autonomy to run teams.

Google's "standard" till L4 is just leetcode. Average college students in that country are cramming 1000 leetcode questions. Even if 5% are decent, however you define decent to be, that's 50K engineers.

I find it amusing how everyone in software keeps touting a shortage of "talented" developers when there is no evidence. There's an army of experienced engineers in developing countries and each year millions of software engineers enter the job market each year.

Unlimited time off is a scam to not pay employees accrued PTO when they leave since nothing is "accrued".

It's a total waste of time. Gets almost awkward.

A company is not going to pay you top of the market rate for doing the bare minimum. As simple as that. Lesser the pay, lesser the expectations.
