Best of luck to the ones "affected" as everyone that I know who works at Apple are already overworked, stressed and being asked to work while on vacation.
They don't all hate MongoDB, they're just singling themselves out as people we shouldn't work with. Ranting about a product without knowing much about it or even reading the documentation simply points out what type of engineer you wouldn't want to deal with.
Because we were a startup using it for about one year and paying the minimum price (I believe around $50/mo) plus another $15 fee/mo, plus they kept 6% of our transactions for 6 months (which we haven't seen any of it yet). Thankfully Stripe came into play (just as easy to implement) with zero monthly fees, and not holding any of our money. At that point we contacted Braintree to cancel our account and just then they offered a lower monthly fee (I believe around $20) and when I said no, they offered to match Stripe at zero cost. Why wouldn't they have offered this from the get go is beyond me and bad practice.
Yes, they do have some strengths like predictable performance and easy administration but they still have to improve on things like:
- weak data model
- difficult query API
- poor single node performance
- small community/weak adoption
Musk is one of the greatest entrepreneurs alive, tackling some of the largest and most difficult problems. If starting one company is hard enough, he's disrupting three industries that have managed to stay alive without significant innovation for decades. Musk FTW.
Many of us go through incredible hard times and have to make difficult lifestyle decisions, if you can get media attention while at it - more power to you!
Monsanto needs to stop killing people and farms, it's about time that these farmers get their fair share of the injustice they've been put through by Monsanto. Too bad some are already out of business and long gone.
If you had joined them, you'd also be wondering "what if" you had stayed and worked on your startup, especially after seeing Instagram's sale: "what if that was my startup"? Now you know.
There's no way to avoid technology, it will catch up to them whether they want it or not. This is the same mentality that Hollywood has up until now and is now catching up to them - as we all know too well.
I didn't see that coming, no, not with the creation of gmail, google docs, the acquisition of Youtube and everything else we use, why on earth would they want to put all my info into one place?... c'mon people! Facebook knows more about you than Google, and (shock) they're a for-profit organization, if they can target better ads to you, they will. I don't personally like this but as a corporation it's what they've to do.
