There's almost an underlying assumption that taxpayers will bail you out, or you that you won't go to jail for all these securities frauds, or miscalculating risk on pension funds assets is okay.

Rip away all these away and the Emperor is called out to be naked very quickly.

Not so sure about the 9-1-1 point.

"All wireless phones, even those that are not subscribed to or supported by a specific carrier, can call 911. However, calls to 911 on phones without active service do not deliver the caller’s location to the 911 call center, and the call center cannot call these phones back to find out the caller’s location or the nature of the emergency. If disconnected, the 911 center has no way to call back the caller."

Seems they're deliberately distorting their responsibilities.

Total aside.

Has anyone found an alternative to Synergy? Its the last thing that's anchoring me to X11.

The Synergy team has been saying for years they'll support Wayland but no release has been made, I'm a paid customer.

The European Politician would have to introspect and answer exactly how it is that they add value.

All they can do is enact regulations and decrees in a centralized way like the former USSR.

Also as a entrepreneur in Europe, what incentives are there to create anything. There's the existing crippling regulations, employment laws are tough to try things out and just go bust, and at the end of it all if you're successful, the taxes remove whatever gains you should rightfully get for jumping through all these hoops.

All you have now are $200k designer bag manufacturers because of legacy.

I hope to god they do whatever is needed to keep ASML and the like competitive.

JSONB has landed 3 years ago

JSONB has performance implications, many of you here are likely familiar with JSONB in Postgres.

I encourage you to view this talk from PGConf NYC 2021 - Understanding of Jsonb Performance by Oleg Bartunov [1]

Looking forward to a similar talk from the SQLite community on JSONB performance in the future.

Welp I never managed to get my Gen 2 Echo Dot to pair with my Wifi.

Did all kinds of debugging but after an hour I just packed it back in its box and put it away.

Google stuff "just worked", never had to wrestle with it to such an extent.

She’s also ineffective.

In this recent podcast, Lina Khan explicitly mentions deterrence as a tool in FTC's arsenal and the overall recent setbacks.

I do think that getting companies worth $1T to behave is going to take multiple attempts and here we give lots of leeway to Founders and others to iterate and refine.

I would like to give Lina Khan the same chances to iterate and refine as I very strongly support the grand parents views of how important this is to innovation and for startups.

Same, 10 split over 3 monitors using the keypad to switch them independently on each monitor.

I've gotten so used to it that muscle memory kicks in inadvertently for other desktop environments.

Wow, that's a good excuse to go rewatch the series :)

I'd say the first two seasons were more focused on the Space Race between USSR and the USA.

The writing in the third season has fallen off with some absurd scenarios with trained professional astronauts, and frankly lots of drama and less about the overall mission.

I do love the show but wish they'd focus more on hypothetical science and space related aspects and less interpersonal drama :(

This is a very interesting site.

I took the name "Regina" as an example as its pronounced very differently between Canada/UK and US.

If you toggle through the site's region selectors it does indeed produce videos with the regionally correct pronouciation. (Admittedly I had a sample size of N=1 video each)

So yeah, its a great start!

The title feels wrong and might cause panic.

A preview picture of the documents first page is shared whether the user has permissions or not.

The entire document is not shared like what the title seems to suggest.

For sensitive documents, this can certainly be a leak but its not outright sharing in a traditional sense.
