I wonder for those situations where you experience catastrophic failures at low altitude situations where you can't deploy the chutes, whether some type of short burst rockets situated around the plane could activate to "cushion" the plane and orientate it to safety.

Sort of like the short takeoff/land rockets used in large military planes.

Very interesting point but this chute is seriously making me consider taking flying lessons. Compared to motorcycle, plane is far safer. If an engine fails you can still glide to safety. Failing that deploy this chute.

One additional feature safety would be terrain recovery where if it detects you are unconscious, the plane would automatically pull out of the dive or avoid terrain obstacles (like side of a mountain) and place itself in a holding pattern. Taking a step further, the plane would identify nearest field without traffic or powerlines and deploy the chutes to land itself.

The last two layers are really nice to haves, its already incredible to have chutes readily available in private jets. Now its tough to argue that flying is inherently dangerous with these extra layers of last resort measures.

Having said that I do think cheaper alternatives to this Cirrus jet already exists, nothing wrong with propeller planes either. My goal would be to be able to do bush flying, landing on top of mountain fields, camping for a while and then flying back home.

I would recommend just using SAM or Chalice for MS on AWS and layering on Step Functions/Fargate/ECS Anywhere for hybrid setups if you are not using Kubernetes. The only difference is that you are coupled to AWS but if you are already have been using AWS for everything else, its very natural and easy to just learn a new product and integrate it to your existing infra setup on AWS.

CDK is also another interesting tool in that you can create classes that handles existing series of scaffolding and automation and it feels naturally code like but drift detection still requires improvement vs Terraform's.

If you work for a large company where they have mandated Kubernetes then obviously its gonna be difficult but I am seeing a trend where companies are starting to "hedge" their bets as K8 projects take far longer to get to market and requires more experts to keep it going so I'm half heartedly learning Kubernetes, especially on the back of my mind the existing AWS solutions offer far quicker time to market and accomplishes the same thing.

Curious as to what constitutes MS on lambda? Because whether you have a dozen lambda functions where each function translates to one function vs one function with multiple features, the outcome is exactly the same.

API Gateway also muddies the water, it no longer makes sense for each lambda function to maintain stuff like services endpoint like in Kubernetes.

In fact, if you take away containers, you can completely achieve orchestration without Kubernetes. Simply use Step Functions to coordinate lambda functions or even better, avoid it altogether and have one lambda function coordinate the orchestration procedurally.

My bet is that as time goes on and companies realize the overhead from kubernetes and "cloud independence mandate", they will drive more business towards AWS, in particular Fargate is rapidly progressing, as well as ECS Anywhere allows you to run hybrid setups with complete ease and without the headache from Kubernetes.

Just realizing these things as I learn kubernetes and I keep thinking "wait I can just X from AWS and this bypasses the need for kubernetes altgoether" but seems like companies are already knee deep.

exactly, yes you have to pay the piper but there are real contractual liability shift away from the operator by going with aws

you get 0.5~1+ second delay when you use containers in lambda, think its worse on Fargate unless somebody can update with real data here recently.

if you dont use containers in lambda, its super fast unless you start using C#/Java

yes what I mean was mixing stable diffusion into the UI styling without the fine atomic details. Like say I want a dashboard with color themes from cyberpunk complete with graphics/art/logo. It would be a "good enough" category if something can literally be told to produce a complete frontend.

You don't really need AWS for personal weekend type of projects or small startups but for large companies, they seem to be accelerating their dependence on AWS and its not a bad thing imho, it means a standard is emerging and companies are voting with their money.

kubernetes on the other hand....think will be replaced by fargate/ecs, I still struggle to know why startups with a dozen container services need kubernetes. Not having opinionated standard creates so much complexity with endless amount of configurations.

The problem with Fargate is the cold startup time and lack of support for GPUs. It's also quite new and there's all sorts of issues with it but hopefully will get resolved.

I think ECS is a better fit if you require GPU or you can do with not scaling to zero. Obviously once Fargate catches up and polishes its kinks it would stand on its own but given the way Cognito is, I have very little faith that things will improve quickly (theres an open ticket in cognito that is over 3 years old).
