I submitted my project yesteday (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4048636) to get some feedback and got zero comments and 1 upvote. Not sure what i did wrong, but I think you really need some friends for immediate upvotes to get some serious exposure.

Whats interesting is that I posted the same project on reddit/startups and reddit/entreperneurs and got over 30 really useful comments and 30 upvotes.

Extra details:

- I admit the progress of this project has been very slow, mostly due to me learning how to code properly this time while also developing this site. However in this time, gdgt.com shifted their focus to same area of critic reviews aggregation. They have done an excellent job with the team and money they have and I now wonder if it leaves any space for me to keep going. So please do let me know what you think.

- As I am new to programming and still very much learning, I have used wordpress as the foundation for the MVP and customised it by programming new plugins.

- At the moment aggregating is completely manual, so I am still establishing a formal process which allows an uninterrupted flow of publishing products.

- The scoring follows a very similar method to metacritics. However at the moment the only adjustment made during scoring is ‘weighting’, which allows publishers who consistently produce well written and in-depth reviews to have a more prominent part in the final score calculation

the business isn't making any revenue.

I recently switched to spideroak, because i didn't want to have another app perform my sync duties seperately. So not only does spideroak back-up my files to the cloud and to my NAS drive, but takes also takes care of syncing all my folders between my computers and laptop (no extra charge for additional devices, unlike other services).

I've used this to introduce myself to coding and it is a great book, worth much more than the $3 asking price.

Yeah I'm interested to know how this works too. Because according to the link, HP give you a discount coupon, but where do we use the coupon?

Great idea on touring, there's a probably a non-student-stereotypical type reason why banks/companies come to the students, instead of the other way round. Good opportunity to bring awareness to the start-up world

I'm currently a masters student at UCL and I'm too surprised at the small scale of start-up culture here. I've been talking to many london universities to bring hackers and start-up enthusiasts together to collaborate and see what everyone is working on. Numbers are small, but there is talent out there working on cool ideas.

In my opinon in this case it's a matter of exposure, here at UCL I didn't see any advertisements about siliconmilkroundabout; and I bet more non-technical founders knew about it than computer scientists. Universities are a hard one to crack, you really have to target down hard to the societies(techsoc) and the right areas (malet place).

anyone know the relationship between this and springboard? Seems to contain a lot of the same people, even some of the pages looks similar to the sb site?

strangely enough i agree with this pretty straight-to-the-point comment. Craiglist is a good example of a good barebones design, and it's not to say craiglist is correct but they've placed importance on clear functionality over beautiful graphics. Others that come to mind following this similar pattern; reddit, hackernews, stackoverflow

That is a great design for a 1st verison. Would be interested to know if you did this by yourself and had outside help?

http://www.reddit.com/r/forhire/ Always found designers here who are either looking to build their portfolio or have time off between big projects.

http://dribbble.com/ You may not find cheap designers, but it's a great tool for looking for serious design talent.
