Living in Germany I can add: Yes, shutting down nuclear power plants "so early" was naive, however, even the now horrible war in Ukraine boosts the process to migrate to (more) sustainable energy even faster. Also, pretty soon energy prices in Germany might be so much lower and this will be a key advantage.

We are using Kotlin in most of our backends running on AWS. We are very(!) happy with the Kotlin developer experience as well as the adoption curve that we have seen throughout our company. I can only highly recommend giving it a try and do not believe it is only meant for App development.

So I still have not found an answer on what is the real replacement for a MacBook Pro 15" for a professional developer these days? I cannot believe the Dell XPS or some Lenovos are the sole options out there targeted towards developers.

I want something, with good battery life, looking nice and having >16GB RAM, a decent screen & keyboard and not being too heavy. Any suggestions?

Honestly, nice if that works easy for you when using just developer tools on the terminal or a text editor. As a web developer, though, you might end up using more than that. A Mac offers so much more commercial applications that just do not exist on any Linux distribution.

Gimp is no replacement for Photoshop and Inkscape is not replacement for Illustrator, ...

Btw, mostly everything you install with `apt-get` can be installed with `brew` as well (MongoDB, Elastic, nvm, etc.).

I for one have never been a huge fan of Java. But the success and achievements cannot be denied. So thanks for giving us some great articles from the Java world.

I as an employee responsible for recruitment to some degree in our company find it always much more pleasant if an applicant provides his GitHub account unrequested. Showing some contribution or even own projects on GitHub gives me a much broader view of the applicant before even considering an invitation to an interview.

Since GitHub is the de-facto standard for many software projects it makes sense to have at least something on GitHub. I am fine with links to sourceforge, bitbucket, etc. as well.

There might be a chance of timing attacks against such "security". A secure system should never depend on obscurity.

From my perspective, the static type checking is more or less the same as TypeScript's `--noImplicitAny` option as the first example on flowtype [1] shows, the same can be achieved with

    tsc --noImplicitAny hello.tsc

    hello.ts(2,14): error TS7006: Parameter 'x' implicitly has an 'any' type.

This is the coolest thing I -saw- heard today. Very nice.

This is something we, at teamgeist.io, did wrong in the beginning as well. We moved to a more "Design Thinking" and "Lean Startup" approach to actually test our assumptions before we implement them. That helps a lot.

I love science. This is a very nice example of it.

I think there is absolutely no reason to NOT deploy HTTPS.

I did a similar App for restaurants in another country, however, I did an Android and iOS version and found that much more people are using my Android app. The conversion rate seems to be better on Android as well.

So, I'd love to see this App on the Google Play store since I am a huge fan of great beer and the bars where to find them.
