Neat! That's a great write up, cool to see others looking into it. I do wonder if they're going to do anything with the stats and shinies bit. Seems like the main piece of code for buddies that's going to handle hatching them tomorrow is still missing (comments mention a missing /buddy/index file), so maybe it'll use them there.

It is still Avcoat, that's just the name for the epoxy+silica 'honey.' But yeah they got rid of the honeycomb structure due to labour to manually fill the cells costing too much. Seems like kind of a dumb place to draw a line with the budget considering all the overruns it already has, means that now the Avcoat is being used in a design it wasn't originally meant for

The buddy feature the article mentions is planned for release tomorrow, as a sort of April Fools easter egg. It'll roll out gradually over the day for "sustained Twitter buzz" according to the source.

The pet you get is generated based off your account UUID, but the algorithm is right there in the source, and it's deterministic, so you can check ahead of time. Threw together a little app to help, not to brag but I got a legendary ghost https://claudebuddychecker.netlify.app/

There's a bunch of unreleased features and update schedules in the source, cool to see.

One neat one is the /buddy feature, an easter egg planned for release tomorrow for April fools. It's a little virtual pet, sort of like Tamagotchi, randomly generated with 18 species, rarities, stats, hats, custom eyes.

The random generation algorithm is all in the code though, deterministic based on you account's UUID in your claude config, so it can be predicted. I threw together a little website here to let you check what your going to get ahead of time: https://claudebuddychecker.netlify.app/

Got a legendary ghost myself.

For those who don't know, Claude Code's source got leaked earlier today, and it included plans for an April Fools easter egg, a Tamagotchi-esque virtual buddy. There are 18 possible species, and a bunch of stats, accessories, and attributes, all determined algorithmically based on your account UUID. Since we know the algorithm we can check what the outcome will be ahead of time, and find out what your pet is ahead of tomorrow's release.

I threw this site together to do just that, walks you through finding your UUID and lets you check the pet generated for any arbitrary string.

In terms of security the site runs entirely locally in a single html file, and your account ID isn't a credential anyways, just a identifier, can't authenticate anything.

Don't mean to brag but I got a legendary ghost.

It is one of those, "we're not lined up for any of this. It's basically impossible." things Completely different orbits, would need a ton of extra fuel, not at all possible for Artemis (or any other mission for that matter)
