I have a Lelit Elizabeth. It’s a dual-boiler machine, so you can pull a shot and steam milk at the same time. If you want consistently good coffee without going too far down the espresso-nerd rabbit hole, it hits a nice sweet spot, especially if you’re into flat whites.

I think the appRoute macro obfuscates the types and signatures, and introduces some unnecessary indirection. I would get rid of it.

Related, the AppContext type could be renamed RequestContext or ControllerContext or something as its App + HTTP Request + DB and not just the App.

Typical watch based sleep trackers and even my Withings sleep pad can’t really track my sleep properly, particularly REM sleep. I think I move too much. I bought a Dreem2 EEG device that measures brain waves and it could detect my REM sleep correctly, and determined that my sleep is actually fine, not great, but good enough.

Flip side to this, is I’ve had Carpal Tunnel for a while now, had surgery 2 years ago. It’s somewhat better and I am now active at the gym and in general it has helped a lot but extreme gripping such as deadhangs, deadlifts and heavy rows actually aggravates my symptoms. I started using straps for any weight over 50kg and my hands have got a lot better.

I’ve found that when you’re going from (weak, sedentary) => (strong, active) it can sometimes be difficult to discern what activities are good or bad for your pain. Sometimes you need to work through pain to find relief and strength on the other side, but sometimes working through pain just leads to more pain. The boundaries aren’t always clear at the time.

It seems the notions of accountability and responsibility have broken down when it comes to AI. Any given AI should have clear lines of delegated responsibility from an accountable flesh and bones human. Any decision made by an AI should be marked as such and provide a channel for the decision to be reviewed by said human or a human delegate thereof should scope (in Meta’s case) be large. Storybook is one of those projects, like Postman, that has completely lost the plot. It's unclear what objectives they are pursuing but in terms of developer experience they seem increasingly developer hostile. The CSF format is an unreadable joke and doesn't play that well with TypeScript, the number of plugins you need to do anything sane is ridiculous, and this telemetry story is a farce - open source should not skim data by default.

I remember writing a super simple wrapper around Jasmine to do the same kind of thing, and was glad when I could ditch it for Storybook many moons ago. But if I was starting a project now I would probably rawdog it again, Storybook just causes too much pain.

Is anyone aware of any similar projects that are more developer friendly?

Everyone always seems to jump from general schemes (road tax, fuel duty) to Orwellian tracking (GPS everywhere). Seems like a simple scheme of mileage tracking and net charge tracking would do. You then have an overall energy use / mile figure that you can use to price each mile so people who buy more efficient cars are rewarded, and then charge by total number of miles, so people who do fewer miles pay less.

I did the same for a CQRS system. It's been humming away in production for at least 6 years. I've been surprised at how reliable it's been, 0 patch bugs.

From a free speech perspective the right seems to be more pro-principle and less identity-based cancellation hysteria, but they do so on the back of white, Christian nationalism and rampant hypocrisy which is a slightly different problem than heresy as per the original article.

Rather than fall back on broad principles like free speech, you concoct evermore Byzantine rules about who can say what, given their race, gender, position of power or wealth. It’s unsustainable. It’s the Terror, but using cancellation rather than guillotine.

This approach doesn’t scale. In order to do as you say, everyone apparently needs to have a constantly updated internal graph, categorising people across an ever increasing number of categories and defining an ever number of allowable or disallowable viewpoints. It’s way too complex. It starts to sound like some kind of a psychosis.

A healthy principle, like Free Speech, espoused in a few words wins by being universally understandable. It just comes with a flip side that you will hear things that offend you. I think this is an OK price to pay.

I think it’s worth properly segregating VR from AR.

VR shuts you off from the world, and only permits you to interact with people digitally. My view is this is only ever going to be a niche play for gaming and some commerce (e.g architecture, game design).

AR on the other hand at its most minimal is a set of specs, and you only seeing reality. Nothing has to be always on, as someone who wears glasses this is my current world. Now introduce the ability to insert virtual objects (e.g a virtual computer screen) and my world is a little bit better. Wire it together so people can share the augment, and possibilities become limitless.

Alastair Reynolds wrote a good series of books (Blue Remembered Earth) where AR was envisioned rather extensively and it was compelling. As such I view AR as the future of all computing and the market correspondingly huge.
