It sees this was never on HN, which is surprising, given how much psychological, wellbeing related content is on HN.

After almost two years of (net) work which took me more than a decade (interrupted), I can finally say that I am thorough and this works and highly recommended. There are a lot of disorders that I thought I had but ultimately it seems that all of these are my coping mechanisms that worked when I was a child but drags me down as an adult. Hopefully someone finds this helpful.

A game that had 2mm++ downloads free / paid since 2012. It's an online game with players still playing although well beyond it's peak. Since 2013 we pivoted from making games to it services and had not much time to make significant changes other than updating to newer iOS. It still generates about 2-3k yearly revenue which is a good bonus in central Europe.

Just get started with something simple and gradually increase / add complexity. Nowadays there are really great engines that pave your way. Do make good use of them. Any of them will teach you about the game loop, gfx, control, sound, ai etc subsystems that needs to work together to deliver an experience for your players. Also do read about game design. I personally liked Jessie Schell's Art of game design book with the 100 lenses that helps younalong the way.

14 years ago, when low cost flights became popular in Europe with Ryanair, I moved to London with a friend for a year. To get the cheapest price, we had run a simple perl crawler in a cronjob to monitor the prices and it sent us a text over some free api. We didn't realize that time that this could have been a massive service and over the years many businesses basically executed on the same basic idea.

As others have said earlier, if the new tools serve the problem domain better there will be significant gain.

My first game server was hand crafted with php/mysql. It did work and was able serve players, however moving to Erlang allowed two order of magnitude more players onto the same box, while the code maintainability increased as well.

back in the days when we were making ios games we would send out a lot of promo codes to various youtube reviewers with followers between 100-10k. it was getting popular back then so we didnt paid for nor offered money for the review although few replied back and asked for it. well more like a paid service than affiliate. a few days later we experiences a spike that originated from a reviewer we never heard back.

As others have said, make it free. If it's paid now try to approach appgratis and pay them back with cross promotion.

While your game is free make sure they spread the word on any of the social sites and also get the players who like your game rate it in the AppStore.

Also try to get in contact with other indie game devs and cross promote with them.

PostgreSQL Studio 13 years ago

Workaround, why not making the tunnel yourself?

ssh -L5555:127.0.0.1:5432 host

Then you have it on your local 5555.

Happy AppGratis customer here. Note: we never paid for their services in cash but cross promotion.

A game of ours have been featured by AppGratis twice. They blow our charts what was then followed by a reasonable amount of paid players. That made a _huge_ difference for us. 2.5 months after the deal, there are still more downloads than was after 2 weeks of the release.

If you are a small team with very very limited resources. AppGratis is a really good way to get exposure this way. Would happily recommend them.

BTW, you can use other services to climb up the charts, like Chartboost or FB ads and I don't think any of them is any better or worst than the paid service of AppGratis.

Building great apps is hard. So is their marketing.

Thanks for trying. Once you finished tracking, all the tracking data is sent to the server for further processing or next time the device has network connection and the app is turned on.

If the track is accurate enough, has no big jumps in it, it will be visible in a couple of minutes on the appropriate city's map or on the My Area map.

We do add cities manually but all tracks should be visible in case they were accurate enough.

Unfortunately, I cannot see any tracks in London which could mean that the track wasn't accurate enough or wasn't uploaded.

At first, the app we made was just for pure fun. It was so popular in Hungary and also got some feedbacks from the surrounding countries that we wanted to open up to the world.

We didn't have any business plan at all but someone suggested ppl might like posters if they look gorgeous. This idea is outside from our group so thought this could work. Also told some friends who liked the idea although asking friends about this is probably not the best validator.

If there where some interest in the posters we would create customized maps. Your routes vs others' routes.

We are also open for other suggestions :) - Putting stores on the map who can advertise? - Sell the data to governments to use it as an input for cycle route planning?

Customer handling would be a big help for marchants wannabes like us. Currently we only have the resource to put a lib into our app. We are not sure how well printing would go

Is there a reason you only do rasters? I've believed that vector graphics is superior. The printer has problems with the rendering?

Looks promising.

- Do you also handle PDF or you prefer rasters?

- Are you considering handling payments directly from the customers?

Would be so much better w/ payment handling (one lib to integrate). We wouldn't even mind if the package is arriving with your logo.
