Can i please say something about the announcement itself. I marvel at its simplicity and focus on the outcomes & benefits. Especially its lack of trying to link it to a political party / person is very refreshing to see and i wish can be emulated in some of the more developing nations.

At last someone echoing my biggest gripe with RM2. I dare say a number of recent sw upgrades have been annoying - but the one that made me use my rm less is the infinite scroll and pressing a button to add a new page. Also the zoom feels very clunky.

You make a good point. Except that a number of these concepts and tooling in the ML world have been slingshotted into the forefront in a relatively short time and it has been hard to play catch up. For eg. - someone said "frozen Vicuna" below - what does that mean?

i know what you mean about "good stuff", but i did really enjoy the full commentary on this one. you have to give the narrative a chance and you can choose to skip right ahead if you want to without so much of an effort.

I agree that it popping it on its own is irritating. But having a live chat feature I have found to be very useful. Recently I have had to do a lot of purchasing for my House renovation project remotely (from a different country). It was useful feature, to enquire about specifications, book replacements etc. So much so that on the websites that didn't have this feature, I really missed it.

Also technology wise its not 2022 everywhere, if you know what i mean. Many poorer nations suffer from inferior infrastructure, which could mean slower loading / processing times for https based webpages.

I remember reading an article along these lines a few years ago when arguing against using https absolutely everywhere.

You raise a good point.

In my experience, upper management with enough years in the business do not feign as much authority in understanding how IT works. On the contrary IT people who have been with the business long enough seem to think they understand the business pretty well. They don't. And half knowledge is dangerous is indeed a wise saying.

So even though those system architects buzzing with their confidence due to years of being part of the business often provide helpful insight, i would always always run crucial decisions that effect the business functionally, by business people only.

hmm sadly i have to agree with you, but there is hope

In real world this is what happens:

- your main business is not IT

- your IT dept is under pressure to do a lot with very little

- your tech debt grows and grows until it becomes actually apparent to the business that even small changes are taking tremendous effort

- your IT team is not just stuck with legacy code but also with legacy skills

- someone has the sense to measure your IT throughput

- "expert" IT consultants are called in

- experts call for a total overhaul using some fancy terminology

- some $$$ later we have a n% transformation, some unhappy permanent employees who think they could have done this themselves, reluctantly acquired knowledge, skeptical internal users

- you now learnt the hard way to listen to your IT team more when they say that they need support with learning new skills and time to fix tech debt

i saw this video: a couple of puppies were greedily eating from a saucer full of dog food, when one of those doggies, while attempting to dig through the glorious food, toppled over his head right into the saucer. It was a damn funny scene! But none of the other puppies seemed to react, and they all (including our clown) continued to devour :)

whenever i'm thoughtful on the 'meta-humor' discussion, i'm reminded of this scene, because it seems like strong reminder of people's perception of a lighter vein in a scenario in contrast to a puppy's ignorance thereof.

The best part i like about your schedule is resting immediately after a full days work. This gap (of rest) between your work day and the time you aside for yourself to do some parttime learning/work is very appealing.

This is an article i just read after reading this post. According to it: Lanza's mother was a big fan of guns. And taught her son how to shoot. And they had lot of weaponry at home.

I do not know of mental history of Lanza. Assuming if there was a bad side to it, it is obviously very inconsiderate to have such a child being introduced or even be in periphery of any kind of weaponry.
