Does anybody know if Google plans to allow claiming a deleted account... ever? I'm hoping that since I was granted +MyName in G+ I will be allowed to recover (long story) MyName@gmail.com... (It was MyName@googlemail.com and I wasn't happy... and let it expire...)

I think it becomes a relative path without the final/root dot. That is, "example.net" in the zone file "mydomain.com" will be understood as "example.net.mydomain.com.".

I don't think Amazon is being dishonest, but you can see that, regardless the individual degree of paranoia, there are quite a few small developers who don't try AWS just to be safe.

My point is that it makes business sense for Amazon to lure this old-fashioned crowd, and it could do so by implementing a simple feauture such as spending control.

Sorry for bringing this off-topic issue on AWS: is it possible to set hard caps on monthly spending in AWS? I just asked this [1] but didn't receive a single upvote =S. Thanks.

Question for the crowd: In this site the example given says that in reality there are 869MB of used RAM. I'm comparing this with my VPS values, and would like to know if this is the sum of some column in top. Is it? It looks like it's pretty close to the sum of the SHR column. Does this make sense? I replied to a specific comment, not to the article. In particular, nescafe said this was "an OK intro to pre-POSIX bourne shell scripting". I took this to mean that he would provide POSIX-endorsed suggestions. The double brackets, at least, are not "post-POSIX".

Actually POSIX does not recognize double brackets [1]:

"The KornShell-derived conditional command (double bracket [[]]) was removed from the shell command language description in an early proposal. Objections were raised that the real problem is misuse of the test command ( [), and putting it into the shell is the wrong way to fix the problem. Instead, proper documentation and a new shell reserved word ( !) are sufficient."

The entire section on test is full of advice on the proper use of test(1).

Off-topic legalese: Does the "(c) knockoutjs.com" at the bottom have any legal value whatsoever? Generally one would expect a person or a company after the "(c)".

Actually vi and ex came about at the same time. You can see the POSIX standard mentions [1] ex and vi (not vim) together, and you can also refer to [2], under the "First appeared" column.

I thought Windows' default filesystem (NFS?) was not safely writeable from Linux. Does your method involve changing Windows' filesystem?

Cygwin gives you (seamless) access to the Windows file system. Is it possible to (say) 'sed ... | wc' a file in the host's directories from a VM?

That's alarming. From a technical viewpoint, I wonder how they can make sure a person has indeed upvoted the article.
