With physical U2F key, I could explain to my 78 year-old-parents "this is a physical key needed to access your account. Think of it like the front door key to your house. Don't lose it or lend it to anyone. We should have a couple of backup keys too." And they got completely understood and added it to all of their accounts. This was not hard. People assumed consumers were too stupid to do this without even giving them a chance.

I wish i could just opt out of social security and invest the money myself. I'd pay the long term cap gains tax if this was an option, and I'd come out way ahead. The federal government can only mishandle money.

Maybe we need two systems:

1. You may move to be a certified responsible saver. You inherit all risk. But you opt out of the taxes. You must prove retirements assets are being contributed to.

2. Mandatory saving for everyone else (reading other countries, seems like this happens elsewhere). Money is pooled and invested into US companies. Investments must produce at least 8% return annually over 10 year rolling period or something, else corporate assets are forfeited (someone more saavy than I needs to figure that policy out).

Whats worse can be who stays after a decade of attrition. Those that are smart enough to get a better, higher paying job, go and leave. Those who can't, have to stay. While there certainly is some talent in the people that stay (maybe they're just risk-adverse, comfortable, etc), the ratio of poor employee to good employee in the remaining pool statistically goes bad.

Yes. My observation is that FAANG culture persisting the myth that testing is slow or writing clean/consistent code is slow (conveniently playing to the dev's ego, but I digress). As a result, a lot of bugs get shipped, inevitably triggering a rework cycle. But what does not get measured, does not get reported. As a result devs look busier than ever, great for their reviews, while quality dives.

A turnaround in the industry would be actually capturing the rework cycle into costs.

One additional item: Frontier LLM Labs start charging actual prices for their services. We all know that even at $200/month that Anthropic is losing money. The actual cost to them on inference alone (at the time of writing) is estimated to be between $800-$5000 / month. They may not even know.
